"I think if used this way, they can be great. I realise that can be unpopular though. To me, it works this way..... Profile one sends the wink Profile two winks back Profile one then sees that as an invite to message. Sorted. If we're not sure if we fit what they seek, maybe a couple of years out of age range as an example. " Well said

When it goes wrong/what winds us up is: they wink - we wink - them send a friends request right away... a) that’s rude, b) we’re not the wank bank..

Friends requests are sometimes sent without any contact, other times at the same time as the initial wink, and other times as soon as they message. We only accept friends requests if we're chatting with them in regards to an actual meet.

They way they should be used

Also when you say no thanks and they still ask to be added to your friends list when your profile makes it clear that your friends list is for people you’ve met or arranged to meet.

"One of the best meets we've had through here began with a wink. Ended up as regular ish playmates for a while. " Just seen this...exactly same for me..got a wink from.a couple..ended up having years of fun. Act as a nice intro to express initial interest. Then messaging easier to see where it leads.
