Does anyone else find the idea of swinging and not being safe completely nuts? I understand for people or couples that are exclusive but if you are let’s say an experienced user of fab I find that worrying. So my question to the people that don’t play safe why do you do it and are you not afraid of the risk?

There's no such thing as completely safe, unprotected oral carries risk and condoms don't protect against everything.

I think it's best to be completely honest about it, that way others have the choice of meeting you or not.

I know the risks and I accept that there is a limited risk. I don’t play often or with lots of people and I’m choosy and I get tested regularly. I have other hobbies or interests that carry a much higher risk to my health and wellbeing.

I do think about the risk but I prefer it. I try to see the same people on a regular basis and when I get tested I share my results with regular partners. As someone said it is really about “risk management” and trying to constantly question myself about who I am seeing and why and is seeing this person worth the risk. The mental aspect is more exhausting than when I played safer but on the whole less enjoyable. P.s big fan of Jessica

As a previous post says nothing is 100% so getting regularly tested and playing safe is the way to go unless of course you are exclusive partners who have previously been tested

I’m starting to think the people that post these bareback threads are using reverse psychology... and secretly love to bareback...

Think about it for a 1 minute....

Post a thread decrying the perils of barebacking ... Then get all the couples that love bareback to respond... Then you have a list of people to contact...

The only answer as to why people bareback in the swinging lifestyle is ...because it feels good and they are smart enough to mitigate the risks....

Hm, personally I don't understand that either but we all see risk in a different way. For example, I don't wear a helmet when cycling - it just doesn't seem that risky to me because I only cycle on residential inside streets and on cycle lanes - but I could be very wrong.

As someone who cannot feel the remotest difference between a cock with a condom and a cock without one I doubt I would have unprotected penetrative sex even with someone I know well while I am of childbearing age.

On the other hand, I might be mistaken in preferring oral sex without a condom or dental dam although the risk is arguably much lower than unprotected vaginal sex but then again, I don't have many sexual partners so I think I am OK and hopefully won't be proven horribly wrong but of course you never know.

Hep B and HPV are still concerns, fortunately prevalence and infection rates in the UK make it unlikely to catch, but certainly not impossible.

I think the bike helmet angle is really interesting, as there's so much evidence that can build a pretty convincing story against wearing a helmet. You're unlikley to specifically suffer a head injury vs other loations, however the act of wearing a helmet appears to make both you as the cyclist AND the passing traffic more complacent to your safety. Passing closer, passing faster, you'll nip that yellow light more readily, not look before turning as well as you otherwise might...

Very importantly, while it does not protect 100% from STIs, it is still the safest option. I also don't see why my body should be subjected to chemicals I do not need (I've used contraception before with a longterm partner, it made me gain weight and made me lose my libido so it worked ot completely for the benefit of the man and against my best interests).

The risks these days are perhaps not super high and most STIs can be treated but not all - so it's not about the arguably low chances but about that one time when a person contracts Hepatitis B or HIV for example. Even curable STIs are extremely unpleasant and some complications are scary as they can be symptomless. Testing does help with that of course.

On the other hand, I might be mistaken in preferring oral sex without a condom or dental dam although the risk is arguably much lower than unprotected vaginal sex but then again, I don't have many sexual partners so I think I am OK and hopefully won't be proven horribly wrong but of course you never know.

If a potential play partner wants to have unprotected penetrative sex they can do it with someone else, just not with me. Problem solved

Nice post. Everyone has different risk appetites which aren't always logical. I scuba dive but won't skydive, I would wear a helmet on a bicycle, but speed in my car, I won't do outside or car meets but I'm fine going bareback. All personal choice I guess.

My view on STDs is based on some of the info in your post. With regular testing the majority can be cured easily with no long term damage. Prep heavily protects against HIV. Hep B and HPV are still concerns, fortunately prevalence and infection rates in the UK make it unlikely to catch, but certainly not impossible.

Pregnancy is probably the biggest risk. I'm 26 and I know I conceive easily, so always going bare clearly carries risk I'll end up pregnant. But I know that I'd be able to truly handle that situation if it happened. Xx
