I had a very close friendship for a few years. We described ours like a brother/ sister relationship.... I only found out years after our lives had parted us that my friend had been desperate for it to be more.

Absolutely they can, I have loads of friends both male and female. Why does there need to be sexual chemistry between friends? If anything I would find that odd.
