You definitely need to find out what the problem is with him not wanting to talk about sexual things with you, likes, dislikes, fantasies, desires, the real reason he doesn't feel the way he use to. It's not good at all if he won't, that's not normal for any couple that wants a close relationship.

Thank you for the advice but after nearly 6 years of trying I no longer look at him as a potential life partner or in a sexual way. I have no intention of ever asking him to move in with me and look upon our relationship as one of friendship.

I dont even try to hold hands with him now, he says my hands are either too hot and sticky or too cold. I feel very unattractive and unloved most of the time

That is such a shame. I have tried to suggest it to my wife but she is totally against it which is a pity for me but I accept that everyone has different things they enjoy. I just see it as a bit like fancy dress, for a time you can pretend to be someone else and enjoy that feeling and then switch back when you want. It's a shame that your partner was not comfortable enough to be able to do that.
