Don't know if they ask proof, but the ever so helpful .GOV website does advise what you can and can't do for hotel stays. Remember we should be staying at home.

Hotels stay permitted for work purposes, homeless (plus other limited reasons).

Premier inn didn’t ask for proof recently. They didn’t care.

Have stayed in them several times all through all 3 lockdowns and never been asked for proof of why I was staying there.

I work in a hotel and the one I work at always asks for proof otherwise they are not allowed to stay.

Worked across the country staying in hotels over lockdown, some do some dont. Ibis do sometimes, travelodge do sometimes, Hilton do sometimes. Depends on who checks you in .

i recently stayed in a premier in for 3 days when i was moving house. they didnt ask for proof
