We all seem to love statistics on here, so percentage wise how many

"How RU", "Hey" or derivatives of, do you send out say in a month and actually get a positive response.

Opening gambits only.

It's unlikely those that do will admit to it and those that don't will be the ones to reply on here. Therefore the only statistic you will get is that 100% never do.

Anyone who has been on fab any length of time will know that ‘How RU ‘ type messages just don’t cut it . You have to read peoples profiles to see if you are a possible match then send a polite email saying why you decided to contact them in the first instance. Takes more time but less is more on here.

I just say ‘hey. How are you?’

If you don’t answer back or expect an extravagant message, we’re probably not going to fit.

I might mention a similar interest that stands out.

Totally accept that, not looking for the reason why people do it, but percentage wise, how many get a positive response.

Now if Brad Pitt or Idris Elba were to send me such message I'll definitely make an exception .

Whenever I message a single female or couple I always address them Correctly. Each and every message is written from scratch. I'm pretty sure some people think it's a cut and paste jobby

In terms of replies from an opening message is very few and far between. Maybe a reply for every twenty messages sent. Regularity of me sending an opening message is maybe twenty a year. And that's being generous.

I can only give you our response rate if we receive such messages, and the number is zero. We've never sent a message like that.

I did do an experiment once where I replied to them all for about a month to see if any of them had anything more interesting to say. In that self-selecting group I discovered that none of them showed any ability to have a conversation. So now any message like that goes straight in the bin.

Can't see what you are saying. Are you suggesting that if we did, we wouldn't need to read what some had written?

My original question was just asking for a percentage...nothing more.

Not what you write, or how hard it is.

Perhaps inadvertently it has highlighted, no matter what someone writes, people will choose not to read it, but give an answer anyway.

OK, so would you consider having only a 5% reply rate, of changing your opening gambit

From "How RU" "Hi" "Hey" or the many derivatives of the usual one liners or even just a one word approach ( as per the original question) or are you happy with 5%.

Any like that I get are deleted immediately because thats what my profile says I will do.

Since Covid I've not made many contacts as its not been possible to meet.

Prior to covid I would be sending out initial contacts to three or four a week to try to fix meetings sooner rather than later.

Usually averaged two meetings a month.

We never send one line messages out as an opening gambit and delete 99% of first time one liners that come to us. If someone is that unimaginative on a first message and clearly hasn’t read our profile which says “we do not respond to one line messages” then we have no desire to engage, never mind to meet. Too many people play the numbers game, it fails then they moan on the forums that they can’t get any responses

I never send a one liner message. Its always well written based on the profile and what takes my interest from their profile.
