Usually it means they are familiar with the site and how it works, and probably experienced in spotting the time wasters.

It also implies they've left for whatever reason but could not resist the magnetic attraction of fab and are back for more.

Because some profiles state they wouldn't be interested in a 'newbie'. So stating you have been here before helps relating the fact that you're not looking at the screen,dribbling.

If they e-mail (back) it is a good conversation.

Strangely, lots of the people who claim to have been here before & know how it works, still have really crap profiles and send "how you doing?" type messages. You'd think with their vast experience they'd have worked out a better way to get replies by now.
