Might be a daft question but not meant to be.

It’s either a social meeting (no play) with an individual or couple to see whether you like each other in person before deciding whether to take it further; or it’s an organised group social to get to meet and chat with other Fabbers in a social setting (again, no play).

Not a daft question at all. Because there are two quite different things that are both called "socials".

One is a face to face meet between two individuals (or couples, or whatever), privately arranged, for the purpose of checking each other out. It might be a drink in a bar, a walk in the park, or anything. But it is a social meet, with no sex (although if you hit it off, there's always the option of following it immediately with something else).

The other is an organised event with multiple people. Someone will book a venue, advertise the event, and manage the guest list. Many of the attendees will not have had any contact with the others before, and might not even know who they are before they get there. Again, it's a social event with no sex (although what you get up to in your hotel afterwards, with people you met at the social, is your business).

When we say social we mean meeting up for a drink and chat to see how we get along and to make sure they are who they say they are. It’s always nice to have a night out and meet new people even if you don’t end up meeting to play. Pre-covid, of course.
