I Can Travel... Can You Really?

So, assuming it’s normal covid-free times... we’ve all heard it...

After politely declining on grounds of geography, the immortal words ‘I can travel’ or some variant involving work locations, how ‘worth it’ I am, or having use of a private jet.

Some of these people are actually cute. But between hubby, kids, dog, work, and my cycle, I am generally free to meet for a couple of hours, midday, a handful of times in a month.

I am flattered as hell, but given that I also like to social over coffee, somewhere public on a first meet, I would feel under immense pressure and don’t feel comfortable asking somebody to come 100, 150, 200+ miles for that.

So, hotel meets/arranged meets aside, how many people genuinely travel that far for a fuck? Or are they just desperately wanting to continue the conversation?

Im sure there are a few people who have the time to travel a long way but as you say - family, work, life etc do get in the way.

I imagine that many are simply trying to keep you interested and cant face defeat.

It's hard to find a single guy locally within 15 min drive because most of them are non committal and are cheating on their partners.

So someone saying that they are ready to travel 100s of miles is just another time wasting gimmick.

We never do prearranged meets, as you said, unnecessary pressure.

Yet we still get asked.

Also, when you going to a club next?

Sex with others isn’t high on our list of domestic life.

However, when there is time for fun it may rise to the top for awhile.

I mean travelling 200 miles for a social is a bit extreme & would be too much for me. I normally stick within a 30/40 mile radius.

Then clubs I’ll extend it further - as not many good ones around me. But if I met someone in a club, I’d travel for more than a social.

With me, it depends on the journey rather than the distance.

I'd rather travel 100 miles across country by motorway than 40 miles through London any day!

I've travelled all over the country for various jobs in the past, (well before Fabs), so it doesn't bother me, I like listening to the radio or other music on the car stereo sound system.

An ex lived 100 miles away & I used to visit every weekend, it never seemed too far back then.

I don’t do socials, other than at clubs. I live in the middle of nowhere and often travel minimum 100 miles for hotel meets and them to me

If everyone’s happy to travel and it’s within a few hours I’m in x

Torpoint & Stonehouse

It totally depends on the person

I want to feel a connection, if there is one then yes I would and have driven for an hour or more for coffee (and do mean coffee)

Having a social meet is not a first part of something for me, its something to enjoy in its own right

Having met many Fabbers over the last 9 years I can count a fair few that were highly enjoyable meets in a public cafe

If all you want is a quicky one nighter then I guess not far is too far, but if you want to feel a connection with someone who also enjoys the lifestyle then distance is no object

Titz Towers, North Notts

Travelling enthusiasm goes on a sliding scale.

Initial message, typed one handed 10/10 enthusiasm.

Have a wank, enthusiasm dips to 8/10

Go to bed and sleep to the morning, 7/10

Go to work and pass a petrol station and notice petrol has gone up again, 6/10

Look how far it is by road to the meet, 5/10

Nights are still dark and it's no fun travelling back in the dark, 4/10

Watch pornhub and have a wank, 3/10

Realise that on the night of the meet there's an omnibus edition of Colonel March of the Yard on Talking Pictures, 2/10

Look for someone with a pulse and questionable standards closer to home, 1/10

Think fuck it, block original person and not tell them you've changed your mind 0/10

If I'm getting on well with someone then yeah, I'd consider it, but... it would be for a day out and a laugh. It'd need to be an adventure.

I've had people travel hours to me. We'd got on like a house on fire and knew that even if there was no sexual chemistry, we would still have a right good time.

One guy travelled from London and stayed at mine the night. Nothing sexual happened, not even a snog but we had a superb weekend.

I only cried a little bit after he'd gone that he didn't fancy me in person

We used to often plan a dirty weekend away somewhere and then see if there were people in the area that we liked and message them for tips on where to go etc, then often met up with them and if we all hit it off then back to the hotel, or sometimes even theirs.

It’s on a sliding scale for us too & I know this might not make people feel “Special” but the further away they are the more we’ll build something to do around either a night or weekend away.

We got caught out before by arranging stuff including sitters, hotel etc. Without a backup plan of something to do & sure enough they didn’t show up. We’d invite the other party to join us if they wanted to as well.

By doing this we can travel further for socials.

Everything is relative too, we travel 24 miles for decent shops, 30+ if we want a cinema, B&Q etc. So travelling the 60+ miles to Cardiff, Swansea or Chester for a social coffee is not unreasonable to us.

For the very same reasons ( bar the hubby and kids ) I won't entertain conversation with anyone that lives more than 45minutes away.

I can't be doing with the guilt and the self inflicted pressure I feel under when someone travels several hours for a coffee that might not lead

further .

I'm always amazed when people living at the other end of the country get in touch , there's literally nothing to gain I'm the worst pen pal ever

It makes me pretty uncomfortable if I've not met the person before. That there will be expectations or pressure on me. If it's out of someone's way, then as a rule I'm uninterested.

There are exceptions, but they're exceedingly rare.

During the summer i will travel 3 hours or so, as i use it as a time to take my bike out for a blast, and have some fun at the same time. If im in the car, about 40 miles is my limit, just incase its a time waster

I'd travel a good distance for a meet and stay in a nice hotel so if there's a no show or we didn't click I'd still have a pleasant evening.

If someone is willing to travel 100+ miles to basically meet a stranger for a potential shag, I'd have a few alarm bells ringing. They're most likely taking the piss.

I know some people have travelled long distances for a first meet and it's actually worked out for them. I've had too many no shows though and don't travel at all anymore for a first meet x

I'll be honest about it (during normal times of course) if I had been chatting to someone for a little while id be happy to travel to somewhere much further afield especially if I had other friends in that area ish. Or even not tbh, get a hotel, see some sights maybe even spend more than the "single guy quick fuck 20 minutes" getting drinks or a night out or whatever

Time permitting for both parties of course, I ain't talking about popping 200 miles for a quick blowie in the back of your prius
