Does the camera lie or do people hire pros?

This is something that has been in my mind for a while now. What are people's experiences of the accuracy of the photos of people on here, compared to how they look in real life?

Now I'll be the first to admit that I don't have Hollywood movie star looks, I.E. apart from the dimple I'm less of a young Kirk Douglas and more of an old Kirk off Coronation Street, yet apparently my photos on the site are dreadful compared to what I look like in real life (I have been quoted this by nearly everyone that I've met on here and other sites and some have even advised me to take them down as they don't do me justice).

Please keep with me though as this is not an exercise in self promotion on my side (Well not entirely anyway).

The point that I'm trying to make is that using this example, I'm sure that there are many other people of both sexes that are ruled out by others because of their looks, when in fact they just aren't very photogenic.

On the other side of the coin, again looking at other sites in addition to this one, I can honestly say that out of all the the amount of women that I have met (And believe me I've been round the block a bit), I could count on one finger the amount of women who have actually looked as good as their pictures in the flesh.

I'm not saying that they've all turned out to be trouts but I certainly no longer take too much from photos until I meet these days.

Does this make any sense to anyone or am I just talking shite again?

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

I think that photos can only ever be an indication. There are people I know, on here and generally, that look dreadful in some photos and great in others.

Mine are never touched up (ooo er, missus) but the one on my profile of my legs is a crop from a larger image and the cropping has made my legs look better than they are in the flesh. Same legs, and they look fine in the larger image but I can see that this is a more flattering presentation.

we've said the same thing on many o meets that the guy that turned up looked nothing like the photo's they have sent or on their profile..

Hows about sending us a pic of you and then cum meet with us & then i can judge more on what your asking LOL...

we try to keep all our photos up to date on our profile & prob no older than 6 months whether or not i look the same in person as i do in the photos i send is not up to me to say, i guess the best way of knowing that would be to cum meet me for yourself & find out LOL.

Dunno whether I dare post as I'm opening myself up to a rare old piss-take off ya, seeing as we have met in the flesh......what the hell, I'm old enough and ugly enough to take it

Yeah, you're talking shite again......

Actually (serious head on here now), I kinda agree - I've turned down folk cos their pic(s) don't immediately appeal to me (then again, I get lots of offers so some sort of filtering is needed), I may have missed out on meeting some great people who I'd get on with like a house on fire cos they aren't photogenic. Of the people I have met, often the photos don't do them justice cos when you chat/interact/laugh you get a more rounded impression and the picture then seems lesser (does that make sense???)

I've got some professional pix on my profile which I bloody well love, but I know I don't always look that good so when I send face pics I include a pro one and a "normal" box-brownie type snap and there's plenty of naked unphotoshopped pix as well so what you see is pretty much what you get (and I don't scrub up too bad either if you get me in the right light or stick a bag on me head)

In summary, I'll agree with ya Sean (just this once) that I don't take too much notice of pictures from those that catch my eye until I meet them (unless they're 20 years outta date)

**Waits for Micky taking to begin**

I always view people on cam now days before i meet, i have found that so many use old pics, so its not a case of them looking better on their pics its more a case of them no longer looking as they did 20 years ago

But i have also found some that look better in the flesh, tho i still feel it best to swap cam images that way both parties know what they are getting

I have always thought i look better on pics than real life but most of the people i meet tell me my pics do me no justic, so just goes to show we all view looks differently

I like editing pics, hate seeing shite pics(especially whn the subject is hot), I dont prefer photorealism(despite it being a photograph), so sometimes its an arty take on the original pic.I have the tools to remove blemishes etc etc, give softer skintones. Its not about being professional..just being good around pic editors.Even googles on picasa can be used to create stunning pics and thats just in a few clicks.

Well for once I won't take the piss, don't worry it won't last

I just get the impression that too many people take photos as the ultimate verification when in reality, as has been stated earlier, they can only ever be a guide. Also as Dudley woman stated ( Sorry too lazy to go back and find your name! lol), I've met folk who's 'recent pics' have turned out to be 15 years and 6 stone out of date!

I always use recent ones myself as I can't see the rationale behind turning up and meeting someone when you are not the same age and or size as they are expecting. What's the point, do they think that you'll just shag em anyway out of pity or something?

So far no one has said I don't look like my pics and I've had a few of the "your pics don't do you justice" or "you look better in the skin " but you never know if they are just being nice.

So I would say it's best to get people on cam or do as I do and just go to clubs. You see people in the flesh and then there's no worry about old pics etc.

Yes I know people will say owt for a shag, it's that when almost everyone says it that you think that there must be something in it.

As for your advice, re clubs etc. I couldn't agree more, if they are shite then it doesn't matter, you can just move on

I am always told I look better in real life. But then I would not bother putting up pics which were not a good representation of me.

Cameras can do a lot of lying!

I admit myself that certain angles can make me look better! And I also think my pictures can make me look slimmer and hide a multitude of sins! Which annoys me slightly because I always think I look better in 'good' pictures so would always choose them over pictures that I think are 'bad' but are probably a better perception of myself.

I just don't like pictures in general!

I've put 4 new pictures up, they're all different and I've done 2 in B&W as I wanted to see what they look like.

As for camera lying? I dont like the picture of me in a suit displayed on my profile but its passable.

If your intention is to meet people I see little point in it being anything other than.

I think I look like my pics - infact I think I look better in the flesh as I take a crap pic and am quite awkward in front of a camera.

I guess it is only those that do meet me that can answer the question truthfully, but then again, that is only their perception.

And we'll leave it at that
