"Running 5k and the weight is not really dropping off me, been eating sensible too, guess i just need to persevere " If your weight is lowering even slightly you have a perfect balance If not then you're most likely eating too much I generally advise against dropping weight quickly

"Thanks for all the advice, Iv list about 2kg over a month and maybe lost a little bit of love handle lol Iv started cycling too but i don’t enjoy it as much S the running. " 2kg in a month is good going. To put it in perspective weigh it out and have a look - you'll be surprised. Perseverance is the key

"Keep it up OP, you'll soon see it pay off. Do you weigh yourself, look at I'm and out calories ?" I was on my fitness pal and weighing everyday but I don’t think it’s good for you mentally, can see how eating disorders start logging every meal. I’m not bad at healthy eating, just I also eat junk and portion control is out the window!!

"Running 5k and the weight is not really dropping off me, been eating sensible too, guess i just need to persevere " Free advice from a personal trainer: Running won't really help you lose fat. It'll help a bit - and it'll certainly make you healthier - but calorie restriction is what you need to make the difference. Try and do it by changing the type/ratio of foods as much as possible rather than the amounts (eg making pasta with sauce, use the same amount of meat, less pasta and more onion/carrot/peppers/etc). If you really want exercise specifically for fat loss, then resistance exercise with reps in the hypertrophy range (2-4 sets of 8-12 reps per exercise) and high-intensity exercise (sprinting or interval running) will have a greater effect, by building muscle mass to burn calories even sitting still, and boosting your metabolism.

"Running 5k and the weight is not really dropping off me, been eating sensible too, guess i just need to persevere " How long have you been doing this for? Many exercise and expect weight loss within a few weeks whereas weight loss is actually meant to be gradual over many months to be healthy. Also, what is sensible? Are you just eating less as still unhealthy or healthy but a lot? How intensely are you running that 5k and how often?

" Just a note pt He's losing an lb a week Whatever he is doing its perfect Continue doing what you're doing op However in the future you may need to subtlety change things Hiit can work it can also stimulate hunger and be counterproductive Most who are in calorific deficit will struggle to add muscle mass Usually better for most to concentrate on fat loss diet or muscle build Both IS possible but can be difficult to balance and hold the mental discipline Worst mistake we all make is changing a successful plan too early because we are greedy or impatient for a bit extra Usually its counter productive

"For me there seems to be a 3 to 4 week lag between what I eat/don't eat plus my exercise (or lack of it) and any weight change (+/-). Once your exercise and diet become route and stable you will see lose weight and be able to maintain a new lower weight. But, like with physical performance, your weight my plateau and it could take a while to star shifting it again. Plus, at some point you'll reach your ideal weight, whilst you'll be able to go beyond that it'll be difficult to maintain. Recognising when you've reach it is the difficult part."

"Running 5k and the weight is not really dropping off me, been eating sensible too, guess i just need to persevere " You need to keep your heart rate lower to burn fat. Also running in a low heart zone can see you run faster. Look up 80/20 running

"Exercise accounts for around 20% weight loss, the rest is down to diet. As the saying goes 'you can't outrun a bad diet'." This Down load Myfittnesspal and be really strict about tracking calories. But ignore what Myfittnesspal suggests as optimal calorie intake, its always to high. Running isnt always the best weight loss exercise. Look into HITT workouts and also weifht lifting.

"Running 5k and the weight is not really dropping off me, been eating sensible too, guess i just need to persevere " Hi OP As a runner myself my weight can fluctuate sometimes but I have other factors to take into consideration such a HRT for menopause and edible treats. Please don't pressure yourself to lose weight or your enjoyment of running could get dampened. Also, you will gain muscle for a while before you start to notice a lose of weight. Then your body shape changes...for the better I must add. I won't give you advice on diet as that's personal to each person and what works for one may not work for others. But you have had some good advice in posts above. I hope you continue to enjoy running as much as I do... I love it Her x

"Wow thanks for all the posts and support. Il try and answer the ones I can remember lol Been running for about 3 months, don’t overly enjoy it but get on with it, my pace is probably slow, around 6mph and I run 5k in around 30 mins on a treadmill, sometimes I stop for a minute to get my breast back and go again. 3.1 mile or 5k seems to be my limit but I’m aiming for more, maybe I should slow down more and try and go further. My diet is ok, I eat a lot of carbs but not so much pizza and chips. Veg is ok, not a fan of salad or fancy rabbit food lol portions are big, but then I’m 6’ and 98kg so have a kinda big frame. I don’t drink much alcohol and don’t live on takeaways. I’m going to start trying to walk on an incline to keep my heat rate in the fat burn zone, do that for 20 mins each day see how it works out. " If it's actual weight loss you're aiming for, at least halve the carbs you're eating and up the good fats and protein. I used to weigh almost 21 stones but I'm now zero carb and have been that or keto for 12 years with not one nanoseconds worth of organised exercise.

" Normally I suggest Diet for weight loss look carefully at portion size almost everyone over estimates the quantity of food they think they need Oats for example we all love the "normal" 3 quarter full bowl yet 70 grams is pplenty looks tiny Exercise not exactly for fat loss but it obviously helps but I advocate exercise for its body composition benefits its bone and muscle maintenance or improvement for strength balance mobility longevity heart benefits and hormone balance Cross training is usually more beneficial than single poison as it gives a more balanced musculature However the golden golden rule is consistently and perseverance

To be candid the process imo is a tad more involved and nuanced esp to cover the variables than a a single forum post I could write 1000 alone words upon how to understand oneself which is pretty vital There would be a great deal of if or statements

Understand the self I find is one helpful step One size fits all simplicity usually does not We all know what to do. we all dont know how to persuade our brain to do it
