Ladies, what ticks your boxes for a good opening message when approaching someone you like for the first time? I’m respectful and polite, I don’t talk filth in my original message or suggest a meet right now. I generally just make it clear I’ve read the profile, thought we may be compatible and ask them to check my profile and then see if they fancy a chat. I get next to no responses.

Guys.... what have you found to be a successful approach that’s worked for you?

A politely worded message that shows you've read the profile is always a good start OP

The ratio of men to women has you at a disadvantage but in my opinion your approach is good.

I don't think there's a magic formula that's guaranteed to give you success, just go with the flow and enjoy your time here.

OP, I do precisely that! I read the profile and try where possible to make a reference to something on it to show I've read it. My messages are polite, courteous and more often than not include a face picture.

The vast majority of messages do not get read. Of those that do get read, a tiny minority get a response which, in most cases is "no thanks" (not a problem and I appreciate their honesty and courtesy). But every once in a while, a conversation starts...

Be yourself OP, be patient, and live to your standards, and eventually the type of person you appeal to will come your way.

a hello, my name, were im from, what my job is seems to do me ok

because if i met them in a bar those would probably be in the 1st few questions/words id say to someone id just met

I’ll always write a well mannered, friendly and humorous message. Making reference to something unique to their profile. Signing off with a face picture of myself and basically open for them to reply if they’re interested.
