Saw Libertines' thread asking about how to define for a mate and tried sending a message with some help but they have a single male block so fair enough.

Anyway have you advised your mates to just google the definition of it or look it up on Wikipedia? It might help them, also if they registered here it could help them to understand it better - what betetr way than to mingle with people on the forums?

I hope this is of use!

Why can't they just tell the mate? Can't see that it would be so terribly difficult to explain - if you do something surely you know what it is that you're doing?

Who knows why, but maybe reading a little about it would explain something. I think coming here would definitely explain better though.

Maybe just not to the lounge though, lol, if I had just joined the site and read the postings in there as an idea of what swinging is all about I'd be very worried and a bit afraid of Marmite by now ............xx xx

Can't see why anyone would need to explain what swinging is, or even have a long definition. At it's simplist swinging is having sex with other consensual people. I know other people will probably disagree with me and make distinctions between couples swopping partners against single people meeting, but to me swinging is just a type of casual sex.

Swinging - An activity partaken by Swingers.

Simple! Now.. who are swingers?

(Braces for the argument - couples vs single males ... single females get a PASS. Soft swing vs Full swing? Lol)

Swinging, sometimes referred to as the swinging lifestyle, is "non-monogamous sexual activity, treated much like any other social activity, that can be experienced as a couple."[1] The phenomenon of swinging (or at least its wider discussion and practice) may be seen as part of the sexual revolution of recent decades, which occurred after the upsurge in sexual activity made possible by the prevalence of safer sex practices during the same period. Swinging has been called wife swapping in the past, but this term has been criticized as androcentric (taking a male-oriented point of view) and inaccurately describing the full range of sexual activities in which swingers may take part.

But what you really want to know is what exactly happens when you’re swinging. Come on, you’ve thought about it.

For the beginner swinger, you’ll find that you can go to a club or out with another couple and just watch the ‘festivities’ without having to participate.

If that’s not enough, then you can progress to interacting with another couple or single in a safe environment (think a club or a mutually chosen location). This doesn’t mean that you have to have sex, but it can involve touching and exploring another person while your partner is in the same room. And moving onto some harder swinging, this is where there are still rules, but the playbook changes, becoming much bigger.

You can go ahead and have intercourse with another person, either with or without the presence of your partner. And I could go into more details, but I’ll leave your imagination to fill in the blanks.

does these two answers explain for your mate

Perfect Thanks! As to why I wanted specific websites etc, I just wanted soemthing accurate that wasnt going to scare the crap out of them. I was struggling to find explanations of swinging that were A) Not quite so clinical and B) from an insiders perspective.

I was asked for a website to read rather than a direct explanation. That way it gives food for thought and questions can be asked of me rather than me coming accross as pushy, intimidating an evangelical.

Much appreciated to all who posted. I'll be copy and pasting some bits unless folk object.

The above vs the below is what I was struggling with. Yes, both describe swinging, but not really the lifestyle and all that goes with it.

So what were all those people doing back in ancient times then? Swinging is a modern term for sexual activities that have been going on for thousands of years. Couples have always had sex with singles, singles have always had sex with other singles and couples have always had sex with other couples. Casual sex/swinging is nothing new and does not require modern definitions.

Who are swingers? No one really, unless someone really has to have that overwhelming need to label themselves. Being called a swinger doesn't elivate anyone into some kind of elite group!
