In the jigsaw of possible child care options we've now got the option of my parents staying over. As such we could look at getting a hotel near a club rather than paying even more for 2 taxis, or me not drinking etc... But what's a good reason that can be used multiple times as to why just going "out with friends for a drink" isn't good enough and we now apparently need to stay in a hotel until the morning... What's a good cover story? A spa comes to mind, is that realistic?

How many times a month do you go out ?

If it’s once a month ‘it’s a work thing that’s on, with partners able to stay’ any excuse around work normally makes someone else’s eyes glaze over and accept it without question.

Obviously not if you intend to go weekly or fortnightly

Tell them it's a matter for national security and if you tell them you'll have to kill them

We go on “weekend breaks” visiting friends.

Niki goes as far as tagging us On social media networks in locations in the area people believe us to be in with obscure pictures Stolen from the internet.

Her feed is full of beautiful locations we’ve never been to, amazing cocktails we’ve never d*unk, and delicious food we’ve never eaten!

Now that’s impressive work to support the cover story.....

We laugh about this, in the early days we had to spin the parents who baby sat a story, now the kids are older it’s them we have to make up a cover story for and they are far more astute and aware than the parents........

Yep. It's actually the truth, apart from the alone bit . I think the more complicated you make it the more difficult it becomes

Thing it our toddler is kind of awesome. We keep bragging about it so we don't really need time away from her and I worry they'd realise!

But you're having time away from her. Even if it's not a case of need you're still doing it whether it's just going for drinks or a swingers club. What makes you think they'd realise?

Hubby comes up with all sorts of reasons to tell his parents and I tell him we don't need a cover story just say we want a weekend away, no further explanation required! I'm a terrible liar so I won't go with him when he pickd the kids up as his dad is dead nosy and asks loads of questions

We sent the kids off to the in-laws for the night last Friday so we could go to xtasia. Even though it’s not far we booked a hotel room so we could both have a drink.

We had told them we were going out for a meal with friends which seemed fine until they asked us what we had to eat and we just sat their looking at each other blankly

From now on we are just going to say it’s date night and be done with it.

Yes, we've been there a bit. Only with babysitters who are just being polite, so not really important what we say back, but it still feels awkward.

I suppose I could always just be honest and tell the truth with some omissions. Although given our typical success rate, maybe there wouldn't actually be any omissions! :D

Omg I lie more now to my parents than when I was a teenager, in fact I hardly lied then!

We've been to a wedding reception, I need a break and night away, visiting friends who live away as they know we both like a drink so staying over is never questioned really. Surprise nights away where Jimmy has asked them to have the kids so he take me away!

We normally agree on what we've done, gone, eaten, seen as we'd bound to give different stories!

Well seeing as it'd be Chams for us mostly..

Her: Sausage rolls, Pizza, mini spring rolls, iced gems, flapjacks

Him: Yep, all that and some Mint Imperials from the big bowl.

Keep it simple without the need to lie (they might see it in your faces). As you're drinking, a cheap room booked in advance for one night is virtually the same cost as taxis both ways.

I was going to say I’d be steering clear of a sex club buffet, but then...
