Ok I don’t mind admitting I’m rather nervous with the idea of attending my first club as a single guy. So would it be acceptable to attend with a couple if they obviously didn’t mind that idea?

I think that's a good idea. Would definitely make it less daunting for the single and you would probably end up talking to more people that way. As long as you discuss everyone's expectations before hand. So if you are playing with each other or doing your own thing.
