Starting to get a bit down now, been hunting for a new job for some months now and finding it very hard, most places I apply to don't even responds. I recently graduated and have a master of electronics, starting to feel like a waste of education now

I thought I'd made a break through the other week as I was asked to an inter_iew. It went well and they seemed pleased, they emailed me the next day saying they were pleased. The guy said he was away for a week but will be back the 11th June and will continue then. I thought that was great news. But I never heard anything back, I emailed them Sunday evening to ask what if any progress has been made and I still haven't received a reply so looks like that's another fail now

I know it's easier said than done, but stick in there. Yes, times are tough at the moment but it will improve.

Well done on your academic achievement: don't look at it as a waste, education is never wasted.

If you've not done so already register your ch with specialist agencies, on line and off. If there are companies you'd like to work for send your ch to the HR director with a covering letter introducing yourself.

Make sure your covering letters are formal: no text speak or abbreviations.

Again well done you, don't give up and good luck!

Angus & Findhorn

good luck, please try and remain positive, focused and keep trying.

it will happen.... albeit it is tough.

last summer there were few posters looking for work and they often spoke of the challenge they faced... and eventually they all got something and it was great watching them celebrate.

all the best x

It is easy to get disheartened, but please don't as you will become your own worst enemy.

Applying or attending an inter_iew with a defeated or defeatist look about you will show.

You are one of thousands of graduates on the market at the minute.

Electronics is one of those areas that attracts a lot of people and thus, I would assume, that you have a lot of competition.

Also remember there are guys with years of experience under their belt who will also be looking for a new job and you are up against them too.

Have you considered opportunities outside your field of study ?

Have you approached companies with a graduate recruitment scheme as opposed to replying to job advertisements ?

Have you considered taking a job at a lower level than perhaps you are qualified for to get your foot on the ladder ?

Have you attended national job fairs ?

At the moment you have to be exceptionally pro-active in your job search and approach it from different angles - give yourself a lead over your competition.

I would research any agencies very well before you register with them. Remember, they work on commission so will throw as many candidates at a vacancy as they can and hope something will stick - all that will matter is that you have the minimum pre requisite qualifications and / or experience for the role.

As regards the one that is keeping you waiting, it happens. Sometimes that can work out positive too.

Good Luck with your continued search

Yes the job market is similar to hear with the non replies etc.

I had been looking ever since passing my qualification last July. I am in continous employment so it wasn't such a necessity.

I applied for lots of jobs and prepared presentations and practised my delivery but to no avail. I did get despondent for a little time but now over the moon as I have the job I want and excited with the new career and change of direction. I start in a few weeks.

It will happen, its natural to get fed up and despondent over no replies and I find it especially rude when you've been to an inter_iew and don't even get the courtesy of a no thanks.

Hang in there

Thanks guys he comments have lifted my hopes a bit and you have given me a few more things to try. I do like the idea of sending my cv to HR director at a company instead of just applying to job posts.

Thanks
