Social media killed dogging

Did social media kill off dogging for good or was it on its way out anyway?

I wouldn't say purely social media on it's own, more the rise in accessability and popularity of the Internet in general. Suddenly the locations were there for everybody to see, and with that came increased police patrols, an influx of what is the equivalent of the "FAF Brigade" single men that didn't have a clue about the etiquette, and a surge of convoys of cars full of kids looking to cause trouble (throwing things, damaging cars, starting fights, I even witnessed knives being pulled once).

20 years ago, there weren’t many clubs. As more and more clubs started to appear, dogging started to decline. As the internet became more widespread, dogging lost it’s secrecy and everyone was talking about it. This in turn attracted the wrong attention and put more people off.

In my opinion, the final nail in the coffin was dash-cams and camera phones.

Dogging still happens to a degree, but it has changed from what it was.

Dash cams!! I never once thought about them invading people’s privacy! Oh me.

Yeah technology has a lot to answer for, easier to communicate but that also makes secrets spread I guess.

It’s a real shame, just 10 years ago a location not far from me was rife with couples and well behaved gents, ok sometimes there was a bit of over crowding at weekends but the couples didn’t stay. Week days I used to give up an hour on the way home from work and I’d say at least a couple of times a month I had some fun.....gone are those days

Agree with all the above.

It’s always a patience game anyway but even more so now. Too many chavs and idiots around these days, so pre-arranged is still the best way to go.

That said there are still great times to be had.

This sums it up perfectly. Used to go dogging in early 90, and you could see the change. It was like a club, same guys, you chatted & had respect, for couples and each other.

Dogging still happens to a degree, but it has changed from what it was."

The does seem to have been a bit of a reawakening since all the clubs have been closed due to covid, and couples can keep the doors and windows closed to stay isolated.
