But governments lying to us, well that's standard, and if they didn't then maybe some people wouldn't get sucked into believing the outlandish stuff, The stuff that went on when Hoover was head of the FBI, the stuff that wikileaks has released all prove that government lying and underhanded use of powers on their own populations more than prove the amount of lies and propaganda our politicians use. Some, although admittedly small amount, have been proved to be true. So while it's easy to dismiss stuff as a conspiracy theory, some will be dismissed as conspiracy theories to continue a cover story. | |||

Someone "let's someone in on a secret they heard" people don't keep it to themselves cause they like being able to let other "trusted people" in on what they know and so it snowballs. Plus, if you have ever played Chinese whispers (yes I appreciate the irony in the current situation) you'll know how details can change as something it verbally conveyed, mis remembered or sometimes deliberately jazzed up. Some are just flat out extortion though, people tricking gullible people into helping them with a cause. This is pretty much how most cults come about. | |||

The conspiracies around the Vietnam war were huge. Mk ultra, which turned out to be true. The issue in the modern space is the internet. More conspiracies have a larger audience. Flat earthers are a new thing but government and religious entities have always muddled information with misinformation to keep us guessing. Some conspiracies turn out to be true but if you muddy up the information with the crazy tinfoil hat people, controlling that information is easier. | |||

" I think in this particular case mainly it’s about providing reason to what is ultimately incredibly self serving behaviour at potentially others expense. There are some that just appear delusional and attention seeking but in the main it’s positioning breaking rules as a general need rather than a personal choice. The number of justifications to why lockdown should be ignored, why we should go ahead with a swinging _estival, why we should all laugh about adding more people to our sexual oh I mean social bubble is just tiresome... it’s nothing more than a smokescreen to the fact that they can’t just say I’m a selfish tw@t and I don’t care about the impact on others. I’m sure they all clapped the NHS for the purpose of their Facebook timelines a few months back... but, time to move on as there’s nothing to gain from that now. | |||

" There are images of the landing site on NASA website (conspiracy theory if people believe they rigged those as well) I don't think we have powerful enough telescopes to see small detail that far away ? My guess is an alien pinched the "rover" and quickly sold it on to another planet after regular trips to the garage. | |||

If a person doesn't believe the majority opinion, all questions the news that is being fed to them they may get called it conspiracy theorist, it might not be that it might be they just have a different point of view or am I misunderstanding it?"
