"Do you respond to winks or do you prefer a message when you are approached on here?"

So if I get a wink from someone and I like what I see I wink back. I’ve sent a few out too. If I don’t get a message I assume they’re not interested. I am so shit at sending first messages though!

"Do you respond to winks or do you prefer a message when you are approached on here?"

It’s pretty rare for either to come this way unsolicited. But I am happy with a wink as an expression of interest and a message can follow.

I don’t subscribe to “wink equals lazy”. Although I can see why people would.

Winks are a great way to know if people are interested, we usually follow up with a message if we like what we see.

"Do you respond to winks or do you prefer a message when you are approached on here?"

I always respond to a message because I find it good manners but I don't always return a wink, I only return it if I am interested. I suppose a wink is lazier than a message that someone has taken time over...

I always thank people for winks regardless of whether I’m interested or not. Although that probably takes me a lot less time than it would single women or couples as they probably get a lot more than I do.

just go for it, we used winks loads when we first started but have connected with loads more great couples we get on with by sending a message first.

Message. If you're serious, just say hi. We don't bite.

We don't pay to much attention to winks to be honest. Far to often in the past we received them, winked and messaged back then nothing but radio silence.

Refreshing to read these replies. I can never understand the snobbery from some on Fab regarding winking.

It’s an icebreaker and to be honest I don’t blame people who would rather do this than risk sending a message only to be ignored. It’s not laziness as some claim it just shows that you like what you see.

Somewhere off the edge of the map... 'ere there be monsters

I assumed winks would show up somehow, like messages. But whenever I opened the homepage it would say 'no new winks' so I actually missed a bunch of winks - from women, no less - which I also assumed women wouldn't send due to the bad rap winks seem to get.

I'm a serial wink and when I check the profile and photos, if I like them I fab them. If I'm serious about the possibility of meeting the lady, I message them. Some reply back who are or not interested and many don't respond.

But I do respect a message, even if there not interested. It's just good manners.

It's very rare we respond to a wink because we hardly ever initiate contact, but we do look at them to see who's interested and we're pleased to receive them. They are a damn site better than a crap message, which is the main type of message we get.

As a single guy i wink profiles. Sometimes a profile has no public photos but the profile text is what i am looking for. Ice-breaker (if you like the looks of the profile / matches what you are looking for) then you can proceed to send face pics or a paragraph ?

I didn't realise winks didn't follow the same criteria as message filters? I only wink people who have men listed as someone they are looking for. If they have omitted men I don't wink them as I take it as no men please despite them not having not having men blocked.

I wink because most of the time my initial message gets ignored

Besides, if someone's interested in me they will send me a message.

I've had instances of people who left my initial message unread sending *me* an initial message later on. So I assume it's not worth sending out messages given the volume of messages women receive

Winks are fine, as you can either chose to respond or not.

Great to get a message if they have read what you are looking for and they match it otherwise very tedious to get messages from guys/cpls that are have no pics, not verified by the site or have any verifications displayed but do tell you they are genuine but their profile looks as fake as a £3 note.

"Do you respond to winks or do you prefer a message when you are approached on here?

So if I get a wink from someone and I like what I see I wink back. I’ve sent a few out too. If I don’t get a message I assume they’re not interested. I am so shit at sending first messages though! "

Totally agree, sometimes you don't know how much to put into a first email. Agree that how's you is pathetic, but your also never sure if go straight in with sexual content or polite conversation... At least a wink does allow you to know if the other person is at least open to contact.

Couldn't agree more with this. First messages are always difficult, winking isn't lazy, its cheeky

Polite always for us to be honest,

Full on messages from the offset just turn us off,

A bit of charm and good craic go a long way.

We much prefer a mail but understand a lot like the wink system to see if there is an attraction

If someone winks and we feel there is a possibility of getting on we return the wink then down to them to follow it up

I much prefer a well written message, but the vast (VAST) majority of people on here have the conversational skills of a gnat.

I send a wink if I like the look of a profile, if I get one back I’ll send a message. It’s just a nice way to show people I’m interested in them

Just one of many bugs you'll find on this site when using a phone.

The mobile site is full of bugs. It's been like it for years.

Have you also noticed when people put loads of ???? on their profiles & messages? That's not deliberate.

I don't have any issues either but this has been talked about widely on here for years. If you have a problem, post it on the 'site forum page'

What's with guys winking, I return the wink and then nothing? Do they think "shit what now?" Or change their minds?

Always. It's just polite. I understand why women may not. I'm pretty sure they've way more winks and messages than the chaps

The wink system could be great for people who struggle to send the first message (like me) but too many people just ignore it.
