Bodybuilders Appreciation thread

Bodybuilders sometimes a bad rep on here, with people preferring the dad bod or mum tum. So, here’s a thread to those that appreciate the more muscular side of life...

If you’re a Mrs. or Mr. Muscle feel free to post here and find others that admire the big look

Unfortunately people assume a lot. It’s natural.

However I embrace the mum tum. Just like how people embrace the dad bods.

That was a huge struggle for me personally. Factor in eating clean and you have to eat even more. But my natural frame is small and I found grip strength etc is limited due to that reason. I wasn't getting anywhere near bodybuilding size but at my biggest I felt a bit odd. I think the athletic size suits me more. But my body is a bit weird as my bottom half is like a rugby player regardless but my top half doesn't match.

Anyway, I was curious, how do the enhanced bodybuilders keep in shape during lockdown? High volume low weight workouts will still be effective due to juice?

It honesty bodybuilding isn't power lifting or strength training, so it's not about the heavy weights, just challenging weights to work out with and emphasize volume.

This is true whether in lockdown or not.

Personally I have weights and a bench at home, as do most of my serious gym bros, two of them compete and have access to a local gym near me, as they very close friends with owner.

The gym I am currently with is in the city in London so full of office types who prefer to do cardio than bodybuild. So I don't really encounter that type of gym goer much. It's not really my thing either. But there is one guy who isn't huge but he has a muscular physique. In over two years I have never seen him progress his workouts or vary it and lifts around the same as me or a bit lighter sometimes despite his build. I've always been curious whether it meant he was juicing.

There were bodybuilder types in my previous gym and they were all hitting the top weights. I'm guessing they weren't ALL natural. Some maybe but I'd lean towards not. Enormous traps, very vascular... These are tell tale signs?

Tbh you'd be surprised how many guys juice these days.

They may or may not be tell tale signs, you would need to know the person before and after to tell.

Vascularity is more about body fat percentage than anything else, blood flow does affect this obviously so steroid will increase the look, but on 99% of people losing body fat will make a much bigger difference than taking steroids. You would only visually see a difference if you were already very lean.

Again that's not to say that they aren't on steroids, but it's possible they are not.

Gaining muscle is hard and the diets just as important as the workout, and it's all day every day not just a few hours a week like training.

The part I got wrong for years and the part alot of guys fall short on is:

If your trying to gain muscle, you need to eat alot more than usual, more than your body requires to just survive, you should feel bloated and full all day long as your eating big. If you don't feel bloated, your probably not eating enough to gain, the only time you will actually feel hungry is when you wake up, after that you should be full and constantly eating despite having to force it down. Guys on steroids can have increased appetites, so they often do this naturally as a side effect, but steroids or not, most guys don't realise just how much they need to eat to grow.

Phew!! That was a lengthy reply, hope that makes some sense and helps

I’m in the same boat, started training June last year and now upping the weights. Forever hungry

All I hear off my trainer is protein, protein, protein……she’s always telling me it’s growing food for muscles.

Try the shake I’m drinking at moment, it’s not to bad.

60g of oats

140g of frozen fruits

100g Natural yoghurt (can use greek but it’s lower in protein)

1 banana

2 scoops of whey protein shake powder

100 - 200 ml of milk (depending upon how thick you want the shake)

Blend and serve

The other thing to help, are supplements like BCA’s they help with muscle damage and repair along side the proteins. You can get them on Amazon etc.
