A friend at work lent me her copy last week.. I read it straight through the night, just could not put it down. Fiction or fact, it's had a profound effect on me...

If anyone is looking to buy the books may I suggest they try Amazon, they are currently selling the books individually for £3 each, with free postage

Needless to say, I'm awaiting my order.

I read fifty shades of grey and all I can say Is what a load of twaddle. Far too much unrealistic sex, for all the amount they get through surely a trip to an STD clinic would be needed lol

From what I understand it was originally Twilight Fanfiction. It's badly written, badly edited, and gives a very unreal perspective on BDSM relationships (I know a lot of self-identified kinksters who think the book is trash.)

I get sick of people saying its not like the real thing, its unrealistic, they are much better erotica around....

Its fiction, its not meant to be an indepth realistic portrayal of BDSM. Its just a fun reading novel with a bit of extra sexiness.

I have read two of the books and have the third ready to go but admittedly I was losing the thrill after the second book. But of course I will read all the trilogy.

Does Christian Grey exist - no, never in a million years. The guys who are dominants are more likely to be middle aged, balding, paunch bellied men than a young, toned, sexy, rich man with a whip in his hand and wearing tight, ripped levis.

Have read the first 2 books so far, and if you take it for what it is, an enjoyable light read, its not too bad. Though i wouldn't say its an accurate indication of what a bdsm lifestyle is like. After all, it is fiction, and doesn't claim to be anything else.

this is exactly my point.... its a good read and very idealistic, gave me a few good ideas as well

I think the objection isn't that it's fantasy or that there is better stuff done out there, it's that it mis-represents a world and type of relationship that is already poorly understood by vanilla peeps

But the intention is not to make 'vanilla' people understand that world. I'm sure people who are not into the scene couldn't give a hoot what its about, I know I don't.

Similarly the Pretty Woman film misrepresented the world of prostitution too and never claimed to be realistic.

People look too deeply on a bit of lighthearted fiction

I am in a bdsm relationship and didnt enjoy the book purely because I didnt think it was well written,

But Iconic is right. Light hearted fiction which a lot of ladies thoroughly enjoyed.

I'm sure! I'm not saying don't read it or don't enjoy it! However just because something is only light entertainment, it doesn't bring it beyond criticism - some vanilla journalists have been drawing all sorts of bizarre conclusions from it's popularity though, which has been a bit of a giggle

Well Alice has read all 3 books over the last few weeks and like somebody else said it too has changed her way of thinking much to the point that she has now just purchased some bed restraints whips etc..

We had a very very first bondage session last night and it was amazing Alice has found her sub side and she puts it all down to these 3 books

She loved the loved the books and they have certainly changed her outlook on things

And me ? Who am I to complain when she tells me to tie her to the bed and whip her

And it's all thanks to Asda @ £3 a book

I cant put this book down!! OH came home with it yesterday for me and I am nearly up to chapter 18 already!! It is fiction, not a portrayal for how it works exactly, some peoples relationship will differ from the next persons

"I read fifty shades of grey and all I can say Is what a load of twaddle. Far too much unrealistic sex, for all the amount they get through surely a trip to an STD clinic would be needed lol "

for a monogomous pairng, one of which wa a virgin before they went into anythig and the other who openly admitted to being tested before entering a relationship of any kind?? yeah prime candidates for the GUM clinic!!

i am on book 2 and not enjoying it as much....all the 'foil wrapper' and 'down there' business is annoying me. why is it important for us to know they practice safe sex every time?

completely agree re the foil wrapper so repetitive, i got them after the hype but they are turning out to be a bit mills and boon, and i don't like the female character she seems to be full of so much angst and grief...lighten up and have fun!!!! x
