I swear when I message back and forth with some men, our conversation is like we are from a different planet. I wouldn't dare say the things some men say to be as opening conversation. Do people genuinely think there's going to be a successful connection from instant slut talk that sounds more like sexual harassment rather than flirting? Please discuss if interested

It's a fishing expedition. Some will respond to a more direct approach. More likely it's mostly timewasters getting their jollies from talking dirty/aggressively to a woman, they hope..

I imagine some struggle with the message of “Be direct” and when they are, get told they’re an arsehole for it.

That’s not a dig at you by the way, it sounds as though you’ve had some ‘interesting’ content land in your Inbox from someone not taking the time to work out the balance.

It’s easy to feel damned either way here, though.
