Because they're not burning as much energy or getting as much stimulation during the day, they're struggling to fall asleep at night, so are staying up later, despite getting up earlier.

By the time kids go to bed, we're either rushing around trying to get everything done that we couldn't do while looking after the kids, or are ready for bed, ourselves.
