Anyone remember Desire Contact magazine

Jump to newest

We were clearing out a cupboard and we found underneath our filing cabinet a copy of Desire Contact magazine from September 2005.

How things have changed so quickly with the internet.

Looking through the advertising and wondering if all these couples are still playing??

We used it when we started playing and it worked fine but did take a long time to arrange.

I remember ordering a mag after seeing an ad in the Sunday Sport Contact, never actually sent off any letters as I always thought they were a con and someone just cashed the postal order (do PO’s still exist) or cheque and binned the letters.

I also discovered swinging clubs shortly after, so the urge to try disappeared.

Rendezvous was the one I remember that came out regularly . But did buy others although lots of ads seemed very dodgy. Took heck of a long time to set up meetings. I think it took me amd my girlfriend at least six months to arrange our first MMF threesome.

We vaguely remember Desire. We used Rendezvous in 2000. There's one phrase that made us laugh.. "Long stayer and quick repeater"

Yes! Desire was the fore runner to Swing2Us and which was one of the first online swingers sites I used.

I remember sending a roll of camera film pics off to a discreet developer costing a fortune, then sending off the pics with the letter.

I remember Experience from the mid 80s. I tried answering a few ads from there - remember these were pre-internet days, and you had to send your letter to the publishers in a sealed envelope, with a PO or cheque to cover admin/postal costs. The whole thing was a waste of time, money and effort. Thankfully, a few years later, I started going to swingers' clubs, and the rest is history.

"Loot use to be the weapon of choice, can remember but didn’t use it "

That was another waste of time. You placed an ad in print, then placed a 30-second phone message, and allowed others to leave a message for you with their contact details etc. The amount of male weirdos who responded to ads whilst having a wank (one hung up in mid-message after it was obvious he had shot his load!) were endless.

"It was expensive and with it all free now it’s unbelievable the changes the internet has made to swinging x"

Exactly. I personally think the internet has broken the taboo barriers relating to porn and swinging, and helped to make them acceptable (is that the right word?). No more waiting over two weeks for a reply to your contact mag answer, which more likely said "no" - it's more instant, and less anonymous these days.

I used loot in 1990 and I met a few lovely ladies and two couples.

So it was successful in my opinion.

We gave up when we booked a swinger weekend through the mag; ir was cancelled but we never got our deposit back!

Shortly after we discovered Bristol Gardens Health Spa at Brighton (think there was only this plus Chams at the time) and our swinging really took off.

This was my first swinging experience too.

You would send off Polaroid pics to the particular add number. Some people would return the pics if you had enclosed a SAE and if you where lucky they would bring them to you when you met.

We used to used the contact mags a lot and met some great people

And there was far less time wasting idiots when they had to write a letter and send a photo phone number to arrange a social and go from there

People always showed up to a meet and party’s were big with plenty of full on fucking

The good old days we say

I (was a 'We' at the time) took a free 3 month subscription and ended up getting it delivered until about 1999/2000 I think. I even had a letter published and claimed my £25. We never gathered up the courage to answer or place any ads but had plenty of fantasy-induced fucks reading the ads. Then came Swing2Us and out went paper-based filth ...

Ha, takes me back!

We used to like them. Also loved Fiesta readers wives. Never responded or advertised in the contact mags, but we did get some meets from Loot personal section and managed to meet people in other ways.I suppose it's easier and possibly safer now, but good days for us

It took ages to organise anything but the best bit was the anticipation of getting a letter through the post. Maybe even with a Polaroid inside!

I first came across Desire on I think it’s first ever edition in 1994 while living and working in West London. It was on the top shelf of a neat local newsagent and I was intrigued. They only had a few magazines on the top shelf (generally a thing of the past) and mainly more elegant ones like playboy. This was a glossy A4 magazine that looked really good.

I was attracted to it because it was for couples; although I had come across the alternative lifestyle in Scandinavia I was just intrigued that for the first time in mainstream print here in the UK (at last!) the guy was shown in the photos. I thought this was really cool and progressive: Although at the time Men could only be shown as tumescent and not fully erect. But at last it showed simulated heterosexual sex! Rather than just drooling over a woman.

I think the first edition also had an article on ‘Car sex and Dogging’ This was the first time I’d ever heard of the term; I didn’t realise that our penchant for having sex parked in the car and not really bothered if someone saw was actually a thing!

The whole ethos was body positive and I was really hooked; are we, at last, growing up about sex in the UK; like I’d experienced in Denmark and Germany at the time? Can we now have open and free discussions without being accused by the tabloids as being into wife swapping, pervs, orgies, smut, etc etc?

Desire magazine was a real ground breaker for me: it lasted in this A4/foolscap format for about 6-7 issues. Then it changed...

To A5, but thicker with loads of new ads you’d find in the tabloids like Sunday Sport, phone lines, in your face stuff. It’d clearly been taken over by some old school hack pornographer along the lines of Paul Raymond; all tits out smut. Desire did retain some integrity but it really just became a contact mag from then on.

Anyway thanks for the reminder! And thanks to the original magazine for opening my eyes to so many things; just by normalising them!

I'm still friends now with some people I met thru desire

And there was less time wasters or fakes back then due to effort we all put in if you wasn't genuine you wudnt go to trouble of writing showing my age but my passion for this life is still young
