...I'm never really sure what to say to be honest - we all know why we're here - obviously there is no need to be rude but at times, too polite, is perhaps not great either.

before anyone says it - one man's pepper is another man salt - I get that.

Most of the messages I receive from women tend to start with - 'love your pics' or 'really enjoyed reading your profile', but men seemed to be described as boring if they send similar types of introductions...

Come on girls give us poor fellas a hand here

Pick up on something within the profile to show it has actually been read. A compliment is nice but not the "nice tits" type. Not to long or some assume cut and paste

to be honest the message is neither here nor there to me, if someone mails me and attatches a pic that makes me think phwar

a message that says simply 'hi' will get a reply, if i dont fancy them i wouldnt even read the message as thers no point

I've made it easy by giving people something to work on. usually a literate and original message works for me though. and agreed re the pic, if there is an instant attraction but a short message I will reply. in fact I always reply even if just to say no thanks.

For me, as long as the first message isn't "hi, how are you" or I'm free now" (or doesn't contain a cock pic) and has a bit of substance to it, it generally leads me to checking the profile, which is where my interest comes from.

As long as the message shows some effort and doesn't scream copy and paste job.

Then that is usually enough to get us to have a peek at the profile.

We kinda like a friendly first message, something along the lines of "hello enjoyed reading your profile. would you like to chat a bit?".

I tend to pay more attention to witty people who match my criteria. Not people who try too hard to be funny, just if they have a witty retort to my status update or something like that. I can be laughed into bed easily

Also those who, have clearly read my profile.

to be fair unless the persons really moody or a fab stresshead then i think its more 80% profile 20% message,

if your profiles publically open and makes the person who see's it think phroar i want a slice of that then the message unless its vulgar probs is gonna get a reply if they read it.

lack of face pic always going to knock some replies on the head, but lets face it if someone who you think is dead sexy sends you a boring message but you still like what you see i get the feeling if someones interested in meeting someone new then they probs going to get a reply.

my messages are sometimes boring when they dont have much profile info to have a crack with over, just saying what i like and what ive done and asking them to check out my pics and profile and asking them how they are doing or how they are feeling at the end and how i might be suitable for them.

and it gets responses, sure probs costs me a few where they like oh boring message and dont reply, but im of the opinion that i probally didnt have that much chance of meeting them anyways! but if they not got much on their profile its hard to come up with something to click with and send a fun message

but fact is if your profile aint upto scratch and you send a funny or intriging message you might get a reply or two but if the attraction is not there then it will die off quick or they will only be interested in banter

if they got humour or stuff i like on the profile i normally join in and have a laugh or say what i like about them ad yeah that helps and makes ur reply more talyored to them,

but im a firm believer that a great profile that gives them a look at whats on offer, has glowing references, great pictures and has just enough info not to make them feel like they are reading a book will do you well, if your what they are looking for

you gotta stand out from the rest really, and profiles often get looked at before a message is opened, hence plenty of unread messages!
