People that have a good grasp of spelling and grammar in their bio?

We try and look past it... But often we can't

The odd typo is cool, but we do appreciate people who write a decent bio.

Intelligence is a major turn on. If someone is too lazy to write out their bio with enough care, then it puts me off big time.

Same here. When a profile looks like it was written by a six year old, we pass it by.

No, as long as I can read and understand it, I don't mind too much. Excessive use of text talk is worse for me.

There's a difference between people who can't write very well, and people people who can't write very well and also come across as ignorant and full of themselves. The first doesn't really bother me, I'm more concerned with attraction, chemistry and personality more than someone's writing abilities, but when people are blowing their own trumpets about how great and special they are with the literacy of an average eight year old then it's a hard no

Agreed, and potentially shows the kind of conversation you'll be able to have. We often find one line bio or rubbish spelling equates to poor chat and we quickly lose interest

Typos and even obvious spelling mistakes I quickly overlook.

Deliberate misuse of spelling for comic/dramatic effect I often favour.

I mostly just hope to see personality, good humour and positivity, however it's written.

But some of the bios don't even make sense. Words flung together with half the sentence missing so great is their author's desire to write fuck, NSA or vwe. I do find them very useful though as a sure indicator that we won't get on.

a quandary, could you change my mind?

The use of the correct spelling and grammar, does this really mean the person is intelligent?

We all have our own way of filtering the people that might meet our requirements, spelling and grammar isn't two of mine.

Spelling mistakes and lack of comprehension do not matter to me as long as you can grasp what someone is trying to convey whithout using txt chat as that I do not like.

If a decent, friendly personality and sense of humour is conveyed then that I find far more endearing.

Shangri-la

Must admit, if I read a profile & it is full of grammatical errors and incorrect spelling, it does put me off. I also really don't like text speak.

If it feels like someone has put very little effort into making sure their profile reads well, given that the profile is their opportunity to make a good first impression, it really doesn't encourage me to chat.

Spelling, not too bothered at all. Grammar-wise, well it's only dependent on my ability to be able to make sense of what is being said. If I have to re-re-re-read to make head or tail of it, then it's leading me down the switched off path.

It’s not a deal clincher for us - predictive text catches everyone out! - but, that said, certain bios with lots of typos and errors tend to put us off as it suggests the person doesn’t care enough to think about what they’ve written xx

There's no excuse for "typos" or spelling/grammar mistakes in a profile. You can go back and fix them any time.

In messages it's easy to type and send without really reading it first.

Agree, and certainly with predictive text, we've been caught a few times and it's easily done.

We'll have to go and proof read our bio now to make sure we've got it right haha

Good thread OP.

We get increasingly frustrated at the lack of content on some profiles, especially when followed by one word or one line messages.

Even worse when they insist they ‘like to get to know people by chatting first’ and it’s like pulling teeth...

We like to think that a well written profile allows the viewer to form a fairly good idea of what the person/couple is like.

Some people do struggle with spelling and grammar.

However most of the time when guys ask for profile advice and it’s hard to read, we do put that down to lack of effort. Strange how the worst written profiles have the worst pictures.

I'm attracted to people I can interact with as an equal. In terms of fab interaction I'm out of my depth with someone who's hugely intelligent and whose conversation makes references to literature or scientific theories I have no knowledge of so it would be a waste of both our time if we met. Socially I'd be very interested in what someone like that had to say because I'd probably learn something. When it comes to spelling and grammar I think if you can understand what's written and the content is interesting once your interaction is taken off the page and in to reality it becomes irrelevant.

That's where sometimes education becomes so important. If one can't converse then he or she doesn't have much to talk about and are just looking for a piece of meat to fuck.

Absolutely. A person may not have had a good education but will still make themselves understood. For me a blob of words (no sentence structure or punctuation) gets me out of breath . The least a person can do is start a new sentence on a new line.

A poorly presented profile with continuous fat fingers syndrome - copious and obvious spelling mistakes and not using predictive text, indicates in a rush/cannot be arsed to check/laziness is also a no no.

The moment I see 'u' instead of 'you' it's an instant delete. Just makes me cringe so bad and for me tells me enough about someone to know I won't get on with them.

I can handle the odd spelling or grammar mistake as I do it myself however if the conversation has constant errors I'll find my interest takes a dive
