Sorry but I couldn't disagree more, swearing adds extra emphasis and humour to situations that other words can't. As a wordsmith, I find swearing an essential tool lol

Swearing has its place. As a previous poster has said it can add emphasis. As well as it having a certain place in humour, it can also signal a release of passion and desire that is incredibly horny, especially when used with other language that is cultured and urbane as the contrast can be a beautifully delicious thing...

However when used by a moronic tool who hasn't the faintest idea about nuances or the appreciation of language it merely reinforces the opinion of the speaker as an utter pillock.

As the Big Yin (Billy Connolly, to the uninitiated!) used to say at the start of his gigs.....

"For those who don't know me, I've a tendency to swear in these shows! I swear a lot, use lots of different swear words, and different variations.

So if you are offended by swearing, I have the following advice... Fuck off home now!"

I was just thinking the other day, noone really uses the word 'bastard' anymore. Which I thought a bit of a shame, it's all 'twats' and 'fuckers' now.

Language evolves and adapts and swear words just do not mean what they did 20 years ago if someone is put of by something as simple as a swear word then their hardly the most open minded of people but sometimes it does just depend on the context

O o O oo

at all the swearing

To the OP....it depends on the context for me and who has written the mail.

If it is was an introduction mail then it might not go down well.

Have to agree, overuse kills most things. But a perfectly place expletive, can be a beautiful thang

To me when people swear in messages it just shows a lack of thought in what the want to write to you. I'm a manager at work and have issued warning to lads for swearing. Yes it has a place but not in everyday life like some do and they don't even realise they are swearing. I'm ex forces but swore very little even when I was in active service. To me it just doesn't seem correct

Totally depends on the context - a message suggesting a good fuck fest is fine as is wanting to wank while watching however fuck off you wanker is not an ideal msg ?

And the dialogue takes a more sinister turn....

I can understand how sensitive some people are about expletives, and for all we know the poster who has had to reprimand lads about swearing may work as a manager at a care home, as a set manager on Songs of Praise or for the salvation army in public places. Even at more ordinary jobs like in a call centre to rant at customers with a string of swear words over the phone can't really be tolerated. All are hardly the sort of places where I imagine swearing will go down well.

Like I said, I don't mind swearing really when done in the right place and when it adds spice to a situation. But there is a time and a place.

I dislike swearing as we don't either.

I will use the odd swear word on posts in a humourous way but neither of us swear in everyday language.

It does sound common and especially so when women swear in every sentence

Disagree. Is it really that difficult to send a message or speak without effing and blinding?!!

However...an expletive is appropriate when suspended from my ceiling, leg spreaders on, gates of hell attached and I'm lubing up the strap on...with wasabi!
