When do people realistically think they will be meeting again?

Jump to newest

By (user no longer on site) OP

I have had more than a few hopeful mails wanting to meet up after this is all over and see a few talking about it on the forums as well but I am genuinely surprised people are thinking about meets in the future just now.

I cant see me wanting to meet up with anyone this year and likely well into next year as well until there is an actual cure.

Am I being too cautious in my thinking?

Do people think they will be meeting and playing soon? After Summer? Or even this year?

Lockdown by the end of May but social distancing until end of the year. Swinging and social distancing do not make good bedfellows regardless of lockdown ending earlier.

People won't do that. As soon as lockdown has been lifted the will be a surge in parties and private social gatherings.

Hence the second wave.

It will happen unfortunately.

As ever with this question the answer sits firmly in the ‘it depends’ category. High risk takers who choose to meet regardless of law and medical guidance are already meeting now, some may never have stopped meeting at all! At the other end of the continuum risk averse people will wait until general public guidance changes and even then, may wait further before making their own minds up when they want to meet others.

It is an ever changing situation. Those who think they'll be able to rush out and start meeting again soon are sadly going to be disappointed. Life will return close to what it was before, but only after a long transition, and until there is a vaccine then it is highly likely that periodic outbreaks will occur.

Realistically, we don't think we'll be meeting again until October at the earliest.

Until we’ve all been tested and know who has had it and who is immune then there’s no safe way to lift restrictions. The problem is that some people may be carriers and not display symptoms and there may be false results in the testing.

The issue is how do we prepare for this when it happens the next time. Will we start having larger stocks of key items at home?

Will we all get tested before returning to work?

Even when restrictions are lifted and people are meeting again unless we know we are immune or the virus has completely gone (which is unlikely) the only meets we will be having will be outside and watching only, swinging is just a bit of fun to us really not bothered either way and wouldn’t put ourselves or others at risk just for a bit of fun. Yep we will probably find it a comedown from group meets etc but can still be made fun.

The official lockdown will be partially lifted but once people start moving around again a second wave will hit. I predict a second lockdown in response to this.

It's a difficult call tbh.theres pressure both ways and it's a case of striking the right balance between deaths and the economy. A crystal ball is needed.

There is no vaccine yet and even if it was available now it would take months to inoculate everyone.

I honestly think 2020 is a write off.

My (John) gut feeling is that restrictions won’t be fully lifted until September at the earliest.

We might see some relaxing of things between now and then though.

But we we want to rush out and meet at the earliest opportunity? Seems a bit silly to me. So we’ll probably give it a few more weeks and see what happens before making that call.

Think we are in this until the elusive vaccine(next year) but we will be let out on a leash and dragged back in a few times until then........just be bloody careful as it’s a lucky dip if you have a unknown health issue and get bad with this. Still trying to work out the amount people that potentially have already had this if the mortality rate is between 1-3 % and 11000 people have succumbed then how many don’t know hey had it of have it compared to the test numbers. Until we get out again I would like to hear from you lot and pass time with just words

11000 have died, but there are hundreds of thousands who have survived. We can't go around curing everything or living indoors until they do, it's all just a part of nature as cruel or as unsympathetic as that may sound it's fact and when put in perspective of large scale it's as bad as it all sounds on the media, Individually, yes it's a threat along with many others.

Lots of things can kill you, tetanus....when was the last time you got that booster?

Cancer - incurable

Flu - goes round killing 10's of thousands every year

Pollution - kills 10's of thousands a year

Starvation - still kills millions per year

So on & so forth.

We're told this virus came from animals.....who do you think is the biggest customer of animals.....health services for experiments....many more million of them die every year & right now for a virus that most will survive.

Just think, if we didn't travel by plane, the virus wouldn't have travelled as far or as quickly as it has. This is us & how we live that caused this and so many other issues round the globe.

Use this time to work out what's really important, who you are & I'll tell you it ain't material items, fame or every lasting life, it's enjoying the time we've got it's the " - " that's important.

Spain slowly relaxing now but theyve been in a proper lockdown. People dying now caught it before our lockdown so I'd say another 2 months .

You cant realistically let peoplecretutn to work and social distance and the age thing is a red herring .

There will be a second wave and as with most virus it wont go away so deaths will continue as will our immunity .

I expect there are some people still hooking up now anyway

"once the idiot government figure out that by taking blood from those who've had CV19 and transfusing it into those that haven't we'll all get the antibodies req'd to fight the virus. Maybe be the end of the year."

There are still big questions about the level of immunity people who have recovered have. Whilst they have developed some antibodies they are not yet sure whether they have developed enough to prevent reinfection. Its a new virus so we are all starting from scratch. & it's not quite as simple as taking blood from the recovered & putting it into others.

Lockdown will be eased at some point but don’t be expecting pubs and swingers clubs to be opening before we have a vaccine or effective treatment... expect some form of social distancing to remain for all 2020. The only exception might be those of us under 40 and at lower risk could at some point be allowed out to take our chances and socialise more freely.

For those currently uncoupled you could always move someone in to isolate with... they just need to have had a row at home and stay for a reasonable period of time

Clubs will not open until 2021, I could be wrong but I can’t see how they will; same goes for pubs, bars, restaurants etc.

In terms of private meets, towards the latter end of the year. I can’t see how they’ll completely relax lockdown when there isn’t a cure and all it’ll mean is numbers of people dying will increase again.

I think you are right. Generally I try not to dampen the hopes of the optimists but I don't picture swinging clubs being allowed to open any sooner than gyms and bars. However phased the move back to normality is I personally won't be swinging until I feel comfortable enough to let my daughter go back to school and I know I won't feel comfortable before autumn at the very earliest.

I suspect I will phase in gradually by focusing on private meets. Its not always easy to meet privately as a single male but it is what it is.

What we need is a test kit so we can test each other when we meet to put us in the all clear.

This would be the way to get one to one meetings back on track.

If bars, restaurants and clubs have to close for nearly a year now many do you think will survive to reopen? Very few because they won't be able to afford it. Do you think the government will pay 80% of people's wages for almost a year? No chance! It isn't viable to shut down a whole country's social/recreation industry for 9 months.

I cant see me wanting to meet up with anyone this year and likely well into next year as well until there is an actual cure.

Am I being too cautious in my thinking?

Do people think they will be meeting and playing soon? After Summer? Or even this year?"

Probably never, to the same extent anyway.

Whilst most will in the .ajn proceed with swinging like they did before, I think you'll get two small but distinct groups branching off from the norm of swinging when this ends. One will be terrified of meeting and see possible infection in every contact for a while if you will.

The other will feel cheated and therefore will try and "make up for lost time" and cram 6 months to 2 years (depending when mass scale vaccination has taken place) worth of meets into one occasion, ie full scale orgies with the aim being to have sex with dozens in one night?

Both are human nature.

We're very fortunate in that we've two couples as close friends that we play with so we won't be needing clubs or similar for the foreseeable future.

That said, it's going to be a good while after restrictions are lifted that we'll be playing anyway.

You'll probably be in the main group then. But you'll get some who DIDN'T shag multiple people beforehand going absolutely "fuck crazy" as it will be an age since they last had sex with anyone.

So to them the idea of having a roundabout with condom wielding members of the opposite sex lying upon it like dairylea triangles in the box whilst they repeatedly bounce off one and onto the next will seem highly overdue and indeed their "right" for having put up with waiting so long and "survived" the sexless lockdown.

I think most of us will start meeting again in phases - particularly singles.

I imagine many singles have a (or a few) favourite FB’s that they trust. Previously we chose to trust people with regard to sexual history, std’s etc - now we’ll add covid to that - ie there’ll be people we trust enough to let us know if they’ve come into contact with those infected or have symptoms. They’re the people we’ll meet first, I think.

I imagine shagging someone in a club we first met 30 minutes ago will be put on hold, for many, until a vaccine is found!

Hopefully at the same time that the experts consider socialising in any form is safe and advisable.

People who decide to relax the rules based on the fact that they “know and trust” someone they’ve play met with previously or were planning on meeting would be irresponsibly putting a shag ahead of safety of themselves and others.

I would seriously question my motivations and priorities if I was trying to justify acting against advice as some have implied they would be happy to do in the thread.

The thing is some people will be completely honest with you about not barebacking and their sexual history etc AND are in your trusted group of friends.

However the difference with COVID is that it's a lot harder for them to actually KNOW that they don't have it especially in the early days?

This is with us until there is a vaccine and that is 12-18 months away. So, for ourselves, I expect that’s when we will be meeting again. Unless there is s drastic change in that forecast then meeting strangers for sex is just too risky. No amount of social distancing to allow some form of economic flow to resume Can changes that basic fact as far as I can see.
