Went for my regular check up yesterday at the GUM Clinic and was offered vaccination against Hep B as I had mentioned I was now swinging (which I didnt last time as I felt a bit embarrassed saying it). Anyone else been offered this as a matter of course? Got tons of free condoms too! Worth a mention next time you go guys, as the Doc told me about a couple who had contracted this at a swingers party eek, better to be safe than sorry eh...and dont forget the mouth swabs for all you swallowers x

I work in care so I have to get the hep b injection anyway so i'm update with that. Get it done at the clinic as the GPS can charge you at the practice unless you work in care strange......

I worked in health care, my employer wouldn't cover the cost and i valued my own health more than the cost of the jabs

was 3 jabs, then a blood test

but i required an extra vaccination

Wow £100 and you work in healthcare? That's disgraceful when you have to have it! All the more reason to go to a clinic then. NHS staff get it free if they have patient contact, i dont however. Not seen the new femdoms yet, only when they first were invented...guessing they've not improved lol

Yes, we were offered Hep B injections at our GMU clinic during a check-up a few years ago, so we both had the series of jabs. It was free and provides additional protection so why not?

yeah was a private nursing home i worked for at the time, we had some in house training on infection control and that's when we were all alerted to it. I did ask if our boss would pay for it and was declined. Im not sure if there is a cure for HepB so decided to get the vaccine and keep my health rather than run the risk. I was pretty disgusted to be honest as there was no offer of partial payment.

Wouldnt know legally where id stand if i caught HepB through work and tried to make a claim etc.. but by that time the damage would be done in my eyes

When I started nursing years ago I had the set of jabs then the blood test, showed not enough anti bodies made so I had the booster.

Had my check up in Feb at the local GUM, my blood tests showed still low in anti bodies so had another booster and then the blood test. Seems to be all fine now!!

Not sure if whatever they jab you with wears off after so many years or not. I might just be one of those stranges ones!!

Its three injections over three weeks then an annual booster then jobs a goodun!

I know when we've had agency nursing staff, they couldnt work for us unless they had hep b injections...and some agencies paid for their staff to have them, some didnt. I think if its a risk in your job, then it should be provided free by the employers. Im sure you could sue the bollocks of any employer that was so irresponsible!

Maybe I am thinking if a different jab then cos mine was 2 injections a month apart then a blood test 3 months later

No mention of a booster

i pulled this off Wiki 'The virus is transmitted by exposure to infectious blood or body fluids such as semen and vaginal fluids, while viral DNA has been detected in the saliva, tears, and urine of chronic carriers'

Think its a good idea for all swingers to have the jab if its free.

Its disgraceful that private health companies do not ensure their staff are immunised, the risk is huge. Not only the risk of staff getting HepB through a needlestick injury if dirty needles have been put in clinical waste, but the risk to elderly and immuno-compromised elderly patients whom care staff may pass on infection to.

I think everyone working in health has a duty of care to their patients and themselves.

People should ask for HepB immunisation at the clinic, its a good idea to be vaccinated

Hepatitis B infection can be spread through having contact with the blood, semen, vaginal fluids, and other body fluids of someone who already has a hepatitis B infection.

Infection can be spread through:

•Blood transfusions (not common in the United States)

•Direct contact with blood in health care settings

•Sexual contact with an infected person

•Tattoo or acupuncture with unclean needles or instruments

•Shared needles during drug use

•Shared personal items (such as toothbrushes, razors, and nail clippers) with an infected person

The hepatitis B virus can be passed to an infant during childbirth if the mother is infected.

Risk factors for hepatitis B infection include:

•Being born, or having parents who were born in regions with high infection rates (including Asia, Africa, and the Caribbean)

•Being infected with HIV

•Being on hemodialysis

•Having multiple sex partners

•Men having sex with men

Most of the damage from the hepatitis B virus occurs because of the way the body responds to the infection. When the body's immune system detects the infection, it sends out special cells to fight it off. However, these disease-fighting cells can lead to liver inflammation.

I go to the boots sexual health clinic for condoms and regular tests and when I told them I was a swinger they offered me the hep b jab too. I had one there and then, another after a month then back 12 months after the first for a final jab. My first course didn't give me antibodies so on my second course. The nurse said I may still be protected even if the antibodies don't show anyway but better to be safe.

I worked as an auxiliary nurse for some time a few years ago, and I had the hep b jab then as par for the course. I've never been offered it at the GUM clinic though, and I've always been open about the fact that I swing!

Bacterial vaginosis, it's an imbalance in the natural bacteria in the vagina, often produces an off-white discharge with a 'fishy' smell after sex. It's not thrush or candida though.

The only thing I would be concerned about would be that if people think they are immune to Hep B, they will take more risks with other infections contracted in the same way

i worked in my local GUM clinic for a year or so. the amount of people that didn't realise they could get it free on the nhs is staggering. imo, i think it is something that should be more widely advertised. most people who said they were swingers very sensibly decided to take the offer...

I got mine years ago when I worked with the homeless. At the time I was told it was theoretically possible to catch from saliva, sweat and tears.

I get my antibody levels checked every couple of years too.

By who's standards do you base that assumption? I use other forms of contraception but still use condoms!

Think that says more about your attitude towards sexual health than anyone else's

I've had all the jabs going, get checked every 3 months minimum, use condoms and have the contraceptive implant...
