I’m sure people are getting worse. Especially women I’m sad to say.

Let’s all try and make a big effort to be nice to one another

I think this really depends on the context. Sometimes rudeness is justified.

I'm rarely rude. In fact I take great delight in being annoyingly nice when people are rude to be. (Usually)

Some people-mostly men-are rather self entitled and think you'll drop your drawers at the merest one line text speak message or digitally enhanced dick pic.

I'm usually pleasant, but have resorted to sarcasm a few times and outright hostility on one occasion.

Easy internet access causes most hassles!

Let me guess...sent generic "Hi how are you?" message to someone NOT looking for you, but hey: nothing ventured, for your message to be deleted unread and you blocked...am I far of?

"I am never rude to anyone on here and never will be but had my fair share of abuse from males and females. "

Refreshingly honest.

Men and women are capable of rude behaviour.

Best to rise above it and move on.

I think it's ruder to send 'junk mail' when the box was clearly ticked 'no marketing'. Mistakes can be made though so all polite messages get a thanks but no thanks, but some warrant a little more sass, and some warrant no response at all - there are buttons that help too for the real persistent.

Rude for rudes sake though? It takes all sorts; just glad it's online where I can ignore it (need to remind myself that sometimes and not knee jerk respond haha) rather than IRL getting up in my face

People have always been rude. Now you have the internet where you can hide your face be easily rude without having to worry. Having said that, they will have their own reasons. Don't bother yourselves with it.

Yep, that's rude. Try to rise above it. I think that people who are mean are doing it to try to improve their own self esteem

Our ‘pet hate’ which seems to be happening more are the people who send you a message, to which you reply and then the message sits there ‘marked as unread’ with no further reply when the people are clearly on and off line. We just remove photos and delete the sent message after 48 hours now.

I'm baffled by the replies on this thread.

I read it as a positive thread, where the OP suggests that we are all a little kinder to people in our replies.

What does it matter what he defines rude?

I'll try and not expend my energy on the message that isn't relevant to my profile from now on, and be kinder to myself. Belated new year resolution...

x Niki

Central

It's subjective, how we interpret the behaviour of others and context give the full meaning.

Most social systems have their own norms too, so outsiders or new entrants bring their experiences appropriate from elsewhere. Hence that context is all.

In fab, its wise to learn and observe, so that you get the norms here and leave preconceptions behind.

Some people won't adjust to new things, deciding it's not for them. Is the cost of your investment not something you will stand?

There's a lot of choice here. Have your preferences and boundaries. It's always our own choice who we will or won't associate with. If ithers make it easy for us to know that they don't match us, by rudeness etc, it's a gift.

Focus on what you want and let the rest go.

I reply to, and have met, men with sillhouette profiles.

I can't understand why this guy is getting such a negative response here. I suspect a woman posting this would've been given more sympathy.

This is so true, double standards at work again. Rudeness is rudeness, regardless of gender as far as I see it.
