travel all over

So like many swingers I talk a Lot about wanting to open a club, after some working out of figures I realise this may not make me rich but may make me happy, my question for you lovely lot is this - I live in Essex and there are currently no swingers clubs in the county, I have approached the local council for advice on licensing and what usage a building would need to open up as a swingers club, they wasn't helpful and said they would get someone to call me back but as yet I have heard nothing, any advice on what usage of building would be acceptable and what if any licensing is required, much appreciated for any advice x

Stoke-on-Trent

Maybe they are not being helpful as a way of discouraging you from opening one?

Are you friends with any other owners of clubs? Would have thought that's the best place to get advice on starting up.

Ipswich

Depends on each council, the licensing law is on the side of the operator - allow but stop if the venue causes trouble (noise, parking, violence).

You will need licensing for food, alcohol and entertainment. It depends on what you are trying to achieve. Some clubs are converted existing venues that just alter the already existing activity. Plenty of disused pubs etc on the market.

There and to the left a bit

I thought there was somewhere in Southend OP? Know there was Mingles in Colchester but that closed down a couple of months ago.

I'd suggest seeking out some of the existing clubs nationwide (most have profiles on here) and asking their advice - have often seen the owners of the Townhouse (NW somewhere) giving advice to people saying they want to open a club.

It's good that you acknowledge it's not going to make you rich as that's one thing I have seen said here - however you say you think it will be "fun" like you think it may be a path to sex on tap - most of the clubs I've been to the owners have generally been far too busy running the place to be having a great deal of fun.

There isn't a worse place to open a club than Essex, many have tried & failed, Paradise Spa is an example of what not to do. The problem is although, near London, its the wrong side, you need to be just North of London & the ideal place would be Luton Beds.

You don't need licensing for food, if you don't serve food. Out of 6 UK club's I have visited only 2 did food.

You don't need a drink a licence if people bring their own and you just serve soft drinks and mixers. This also means you won't get some guy with a clipboard showing up to check things regarding the licence.

But the adult entertainment licence, or whatever it is, and planning permission/ change of use will be the tricky areas I would think.

I suggest speaking to the owners of existing club's to research what's needed. Best of luck.

Edmonton

I was speaking to a young lady from the Essex area that I met at a social event her and a friend have discussed opening a club in Essex big enough to have a dance area as well as playrooms and a dungeon. She said for something like that she would need about a million pounds.Perhaps the people that have been to places like Eureka , Radlett , VA , Le Boudior can give a opinion with regards to are they worth a million pounds. As a member of OP4F I would say to buy that place would be about £700,000 based on the house prices near by and Alexandra Palace.
