"So I’m Sure a lot of us are parents on here. We are running out of ideas for grandparents to have them overnight Unfortunately we don’t just have the type of grandparents who will just have them for the sake of having them and seeing them. Usually have to have a reason xx " Are you’re children still quite young? It has got easier for us as our 3 get older as often they will go for sleepovers at friends so you don’t feel as if you’re asking grandparents all the time but I understand the difficulties in trying to arrange things

"We tend to go to the clubs that are like 7/8pm-midnight that way we can get away with food and late showing at the pictures LOL! But we really wanna go to the Newcastle Social but can’t think of a reason for an overnight stay! Nothing “special” in January. We have our anniversary in Feb that we can use as an excuse, birthdays in July and November. And the occassional break away but apart from that not much! We also have during the day Wednesday day times which are fun!! X " Could you invent something that would require a child free night away? Maybe a work colleague's wedding or a friend's special birthday party or a work team building event? Obviously the colleague/friend is imaginary

"We have a date night once a month and that's our only free time as a couple " Same boat as us, usually get 24hrs away although longer if it’s an important date ie anniversary etc

"We feel this pain, ours are 12 (very nearly 13) and 14 (soon to be 15), family is miles away from us and babysitters are expensive. We mostly go to clubs during the day as a result, although can do socials nearby of an evening. The silver lining is that my sister has said she will have them a couple of times a year but we're trying to use those nights out to go to concerts or events in the big cities." Are yours not old enough at 15 to be left? My son is fine on his own if I go out of an evening (which isn’t often) but if I do he’s fine and my daughter, she’s 14. Mine are both quite mature and sensible.

"Tell them you like to keep your relationship fresh by having quality time together on a regular basis. No further explanation needed really. The real challenge comes when the kids are teenagers and start asking awkward questions " Good idea!! I hope we can handle to questions

"I had a few opportunities last year that may work as viable reasons - School reunion Friend's big birthday party (who happened to live away) Tickets to a city theatre (pressie) Won a prize, weekend break I'm going to need some good reasons myself this year, so looking out for ideas and opportunities " Great ideas thanks!!!

"We have four and its next to near impossible. Our last meet was during the day when they were in school and we just asked a relative to mind the two smaller ones. Problem is daytime doesnt suit a lot of guys. We are looking into getting a regular babysitter for maybe every second or third saturday night. Not just so we can play. So we can have some time together. Its bedlam lol" We also meet during the day during school hours! X

"I know this feeling too. Considered looking for a babysitter (obvs do all the standard checks) but it’s just works out as a mega expensive night that’s all." Yep we moved 310 miles away from nearest family, add to that a rural location & the professional in the village knowing their worth & being busy & £££ Start mounting up real fast.. S

Also I found it easier to arrange meets while my girls were at school VA have really good milf afternoons that used to work out well.

"Tell the grandparents that you won a Raffle prize for a spa hotel stay. Longer term you need a hobby or some bullshit that you can tell them. We've taken up rambling etc Or even tell them that you would really appreciate them having the kids for the odd night as you feel your relationship could be at risk if you don't spend more quality time together as a couple. It's a tricky one " I have a friend who was genuinely having marital problems a couple of years ago. Her in laws, who never normally helped with childcare, were eager to babysit weekly so that they could go to marriage guidance sessions. They ditched the counselling after about a month, but pretended they were still going, and went out on dates instead! Kx

Mine are both quite mature and sensible. " Unfortunately our daughter (the older one) has problems with autism/anxiety and between them they are not mature enough to be left alone as they can fight so we can't really go to a club from 9pm and roll back in the door at 2am when they can't get in touch with us if there was an emergency. Another year and it should be fine.

"We have a nightmare with ours - and our youngest is 21 and doesnt even live at home. However we get the Spanish Inquisition when ever we go to a club. This is because if we dont respond to a message almost instantly we get about 30 follow-up messages asking if we are ok, where are we, what are we doing, why arent you speaking to me etc etc We have to lie constantly about where we are!" This sounds very familiar but our son is still at home.
