It's difficult, and yes a lot of my friends have chosen to never have children very happily ... but I can promise you it will cost you relationships because the other person will want children

I had mine at 22 , no regrets but it is a big decision not taken lightly . What are your reasonings to hav3 it done

I knew I didn't want any more children when I'd had two so I can understand your decision. However I was 35 when my second child was born and in a very stable relationship. I don't know your status but I'd advise you at your age to think long and hard before you go ahead. Whatever your decision, good luck!

He’s got two kids - he doesn’t want any more.

He’s taking responsibility for contraception and not leaving it to his partner.

It’s not a decision that will be taken lightly by anyone.

Go for it OP - I had it done ages ago and never regretted it for a moment

You go for it buddy nothing wrong with being responsible and seeking others advice. I’m sure you GP will at least listen to your reasons I know a few had it at a similar age as is their choice.

And remember..... us entitled men can be choosy too

If you're worried about the medical procedure - it's not that scary. Just go for it.

If somewhere at the back of your mind you're thinking you may still want to be the biological father to more children, but don't want accidents - you can put some sperm into storage (costs about £125 a year depending on a place) and still go for it.

It's not something to do lightly as reversal will cost you a lot of money and there are no guarantees. You are advised to consider it be permanent. It's also not a quick solution as it takes a minimum of 12 weeks to get the all clear and can take longer. The youngest I've seen have one was 26. You have to be really sure though. Consider all possibilities such as meeting a new partner later in life. It's not a nice thing to think about I know but consider if anything happened to you current children (It's an actual question from the consultation, I'm not just being strange). If you consider all future possibilities and still think it is the best thing for you then you may have to be quite pushy to get referred for one. Try different GPs if you need to.

And I don't want kids at all. Like ever! I never have.

I'm 36 and have asking to be sterilised for 6 years. My OH had the snip after his two were born. We don't want kids together so I don't see the problem. BDCAW Xx

That's strange. Do you have an opportunity to see a different GP? My doc wrote the referral to the hospital right away. She said it's unusual for the woman to ask for it but didn't question my decision other than do I have kids and why do I want the sterilisation.

Normally a doctor wouldn’t do it unless you have kids over 5 and your partner (is with you at the time) also agrees to it ??.

I had it done in July. Have one child and that’s enough for me. I had zero pain and even had sex the night I had it done. Didn’t require pain killers at any point after. Really didn’t fancy a condom breaking whilst swinging and getting lumbered with a kid I don’t want.

If it's definitely what you want, go for it. I had to wait years for a hysterectomy because of my age, I finally got it done last year and I don't regret it at all, I wish they'd done it 10 years ago when I begged them.
