MSN, problem over or not?

Have msn managed to solve their hackability problem, although I'm not convinced about the point of having msn im even if it was safe. Also is there a good app (again safe?) available on Android, and if you can answer all that, what's the secret of the universe?

I've used MSN for over 10 years, never had a problem with it.

I have a HTC phone and use eBuddy and kik messenger

I've never been hacked on messenger, but I change my password every 4 weeks or so, both my housemates have been hacked recently.

I use KIK messenger on my phone and tablet.

Dont see a problem with MSN as long as you dont click on links that come in with email addys as that is an msn virus.

Keep the two lives separate - two different mail addys and you should be fine.

With phones try whats app - instant messaging service that you can use over a number of different makes. You just need to download the app to your mobile.

Great advice... my msn has no proper emails on it, though i use chat all the time to keep up with friends...never click any links and only use it for fun and you will have no problems.

Well thank you ladies for you help, KIK is an app that adapts MSN or do I have to get msn account as well?

I happily note that all the answers are from the fairer sex (one possible exception, jemima is officially a couple and therefore could be a fella answering on this occasion)

Just an interesting observation.

You will have to get an msn account regardless i dont know KIK.

So start with msn and set up your account - make a password not too simple to predict include letters and numbers.

I use an app called IMO on my Android HTC, which combines all the common messaging tools into one interface. It's good and easy to use.

Slightly annoying that it insists on logging me into everything when it starts up, so for instance I suddenly show up as online on Facebook when I may not want to (mother in law online, perhaps!) - this may be something simple in the settings that I can't be bothered to find out

MSN can be a useful tool, but you do have to be careful! One of the biggest problems is people asking it to sign in automatically. If you leave you email addy and password permanently in it, you will eventually find you have sent out spam emails to your address book!

The other one is be careful what information you give out on it! Not the normal security, but read this.. It really happened to us…

We had a contact on MSN called John. They were a couple but they used his addy for MSN. One day someone came on and started to tell us that their dog was very ill and how upset they were. We spoke for about twenty minutes to what we thought was her, with us asking about the dog and vets bills. She said, do you have a dog? We said no, but we did have a cat and understand how she must be feeling. Of course she was interested to hear more about the cat, so we just chatted about her

As you will know, one of the secret questions is about a pets name! If you know someone’s email address and try to sign it will give you the option of resetting the password! Trouble is it gives you the secret question! We had pets name and we had told the person on MSN our cats name! We nearly lost our account and all our contacts… All because we trusted who we spoke to! And of course, we hadn't set up an alternative email, either!

It turned out that it was someone who had access to the other couples account and liked our MSN name! Not sure that system is still in place, but worth choosing a secret question and then having a totally random answer! “What is the name of your first pet?” Ford Fiesta “What is your mothers maiden name?” Jam doughnut!

Blimey I hadn't thought of that as when I used to sign in, it was set to do so automatically

Love the last paragraph but a great idea, am going to do that on my telewest account as one of my emails has been hacked into, have changed the password twice but still getting some emails returned because someone has been using my addy to send emails. Think I may change the email addy for here too
