I've been interested in trying this for a while, bought a sounding kit. Any tips (no pun intended) to the best way of starting out on this journey without potentially harming myself?

You must be crazy. That area contains some extremely delicate structures. Your urethra is not meant to have rigid things inserted into it. If you damage the lining you will require surgical treatment and you also risk urine leakage/incontinence. Infections are just one risk. This is a stupid idea.

. I have googled this about a year ago as I didn’t know what it was.For me it’s a no way.Looks and sounds painful not sure what if any enjoyment I would get out of it.If you decide to go ahead with this not only are you a braver man than me but a crazier man than me as well.

People have been sounding for 100s of years. You can feel yourself if something doesn't feel right.

Master it yourself before meeting anyone near you, much like prostate play some women are awful and not sensitive.

I've been doing it for years and frankly my technique was miles better than than the urethral specialist in the hospital who sounded me medically. Horrendous. I've never felt so violated and I've loved all my proceedures.

The right place

I find I don’t need lube. If I’m turned on, then pre cum is good enough. Just take it easy. Slow at first with the thinnest Rod. You can go deeper as you get more comfortable.

Having had a set of urethral sounding rods for quite a while now, moving up through the sizes slowly has been a huge pleasure, no pain at all so long as plenty of lube is used!

The stretching feeling is also pleasurable and I have a specific device for that too!

Up to now I’ve only experimented alone, but to have another pair of experienced hands would be so much more enjoyable..... I hope?

It’s difficult to describe. It’s not painful if it’s done carefully. It’s pleasurable but not in an orgasm producing way. For me it starts as a craving to do it, and doing satisfies the craving. A bit like scratching an itch (but different).

Whilst it's up to the individual what dumb things they do with their own bodies, I have to take issue with some of the misinformation here.

1. Recreational sounding has not been practiced for "hundreds of years" . That is sheer nonsense. Prior to the invention of antibiotics and an understanding of microbiology, any damage or serious infection would constitute a death sentence. The (recreational) phenomenon is relatively recent and is misguided.

2. Have you ever seen how thin the walls of the urethra are? It is tissue-paper thin. Navigating the curve near the urethral root carries a risk of puncturing it and that will be a very unpleasant experience.

3. Repeated dilation is likely to lead to incontinence. It is also likely to lead to irritation.

4. There is a significant ly increased chance of infection.

'bodies are to be explored'. I see.. So by the same logic the author of that remark would advocate sticking pointed items into the ear canal too? Or perhaps explore inside your own trachea? Or why not use a spatula to explore behind your own eyeball? No. I thought not.

With no medical training and with zero knowledge of anatomy and pathology it is incredibly naive to practice inserting things into whatever aperture in your body appears to be a good idea to you.
