Babysitter Alibis

So you're arranging a weekend daytime social and have arranged for the kids to go to your mums, who has no idea you're on this scene (and you want to keep it that way!)

Of course she is curious, so where can you tell her you're going?

What are your best alibis to tell the babysitter?

You're off to do some self discovery and going for a nice long walk in the woods, you'll be back later

Say you're off to the cinema. Watch the trailer & read the reviews of a movie so you can quote it if asked about it and the cinema buys you time where it's believable your phone is off

Make a joke of it, tell her your sex life has got stale so you and hubby are meeting another couple with the hope of having sex with them.

If you say it in the right way she'll say yeah right of course you are.

Or say if you told her you'd have to kill her

Or boringly you're meeting old friends you haven't seen for years to catch up.

I'd use meeting with an older close friend (s), as it gives an explanation for being visible in public, allows you flexibility as you all know each other so well that you could improvise and do something extra together, extending the duration. You'd also know each other well enough to cancel if something came up - useful if the social doesn't work or happen.

My real friends take us on mystery outings, so I never know where I'll be at. If yours did this, it also adds a flexibility with ignorance until later.

I think the best reason to give anybody is a version of the truth, that you're going out to spend some quality time together and have an activity ready eg long walk, quiet lunch etc

We have used all sorts of excuses! Going to a rave 5 hours away, going to a friend's wedding, going to a Halloween party in town(That's not actually a lie, it was a Halloween party, but at a swingers club), Just going for drinks to catch up with friends, weekend away with friends...

When I have met people when I'm travelling with work, I tell my colleagues they are old uni friends who live in that area.

We just meet old friends from work quite a bit.

Helps we go out locally quite often for little drinks frequently so it doesn’t cause any questions.

We say we are going to a Casino, normally a poker tournament. It justifies no mobile phones, days, late nights, alcohol, no alcohol, nice clothes, staying out a long time, driving to other City's, etc etc. The perfect excuse or alibi.

""I'm in my forties, not 14"?"

Thats a tad defensive to say they're only querying where we're going. Its not like we're asking permission to go.

"We always tell mother we are meeting up with friends coming down from Brum"

Yeah we were going to say something like that but we're already using the same excuse in the same week.

"Make a joke of it, tell her your sex life has got stale so you and hubby are meeting another couple with the hope of having sex with them."

Haha yeah, I wouldnt DARE use that one !!

Lots of good ideas folks, and thanks. Some we can never use because its just not our lifestyle (poker/casino, raves etc), and they know it, but it encourages the old grey matter thinking 'out of the box'. By coincidence, we're actually going to use a variant of the truth, as suggested. But thats only because circumstances on THIS occasion allow it.

Me and my partner normally put say we're off to the Spa when we're off to a club to freind and family watching our respective kids. The normal response is 'ah, that's nice, great your finding some time for each other alone'. Little do they know, at least the lie is half true.

God I'm so pleased my mother actually knows what we do. No need for excuses. In fact it's her that usually asks if we are off to the club again? Lol

Don’t generally meet when I have my kids, but a party or off to meet friends in another city usually suffices.
