I’ve had a couple of abnormal smears and the treatment too. Not fun, but touch wood I’ve been fine since and that was 8 years ago ish. Fingers crossed, I’m sure it’ll all be fine and not as bad as you think.

Hey op. I've had quite a few abnormal ones over the year's and wow was that scary the first couple of times to hear.

After a retest most of them turned out normal. A couple didn't. But it all worked out in the end

Fingers crossed everything works out well for you x

I've had a few, it's terrifying to hear and not pleasant to keep having to go back but quite often it turns out to be nothing. I just had to go for smears every 6 months, after 2 abnormal ones I got a normal one and had normal ones ever since. Now I don't have a cervix so yay!

I had this in my late twenties and had to have a colposcopy. If that’s what you’re having take someone with you as you’re a bit wobbly afterwards but it’s really not that bad and I’m a proper wuss! Look at it as a good thing as at least it’s been detected and can be sorted. So many people have abnormal smears, it’s really not unusual. I also have a smear test every 2 years now instead of 5 because of that and they’ve been fine for the past nearly 20 years. It’s easy to say don’t worry as I did but please try not to. Chances are it’s nothing to worry about. Everyone should go! x

OP no reason why you shouldn't be on here, it's a great distraction at a worrying time.

I found a breast lump and was worried sick while I waited for my hospital appointment, thankfully it was all ok. I stayed on fab for the distraction and I even went to a club a few days before my appointment. I didn't want to play but I wanted to socialise and not be stuck at home brooding about it.

Just do whatever feels right for you and cope as best you can.

Thanks hunni x i am taking hubby with me..more worried that if they have to do treatment it's a month of no sex.

I have never missed a smear so will be caught as early as possible. Doesn't mean it's not scary tho x

Yeah I know it is. Doesn’t matter what anyone says. And it’s only 2 days of no sex. I remember that bit

It's not an insufficient test..It's a sufficient test that has found potentially cancerous cells

I wish you all the best. The doc will take good care of you, I'm sure.

Don't let anyone make you feel bad about continuing to chat here if that's what you want to do. It's possible to look out for your health and enjoy your usual pursuits at the same time; you've already done what you need to and made your appointment for tests. Chat away in the meanwhile all you like, it's nobody else's beeswax.

I've been there. I'm all clear years on. Don't worry too much about it. It's more likely HPV which should clear up on its own. They make take biopsies just to test but just don't panic. I've had to have smears every 6 months for nearly 4 years. Now back to 3-5 years.

I am sorry about that. Stay strong and positive. It must be very frightening.
