"Rubbish, herbal remedies are not classed scientifically as chemicals. " As an industrial chemist I most certainly class the compounds within herbal remedies as chemicals. Some of the more effective 'herbal tablets' for enhancing male sexual performace have in the past been shown to be illegally doped with sildenafil citrate (the active ingredient in Viagra) but most contain a mixture of nitric oxide precursors such as L-Arginine and horney goat which is a mild PDE5 inhibitor (it is PDE5 that viagra interacts with). Some may also contain compounds which promote testosterone production such as tribulus terrestris and ginger. Products produced to be sold outside Europe may also contain yohimbe (the bark of an african tree) or yohimbine (a chemical extracted from yohimbe) which is an alleged libido stimulator but at higher doses can have some pretty unpleasant side effects such as rapid heart rate, overstimulation, anomalous blood pressure, cold sweating, and insomnia. | |||
