Viagra / Tadalafil and Doctor etc

Would appreciate hearing experiences of discussing ED meds with your GP.

Now that Viagra etc is available to buy online and over the counter, I gave it a try.

I've never had a problem getting hard, but can on occasion find it harder (haha) to maintain after an hour or two, particularly if i'm tired and/or have had alcohol.

I take 50mg of Viagra Connect and find the results perfect for an evening of erotic fun and i'd even say I continue to feel the benefit (so does my girlfriend!) in the morning, with more regular and harder morning-glory, and what feels like a thicker/fuller cock.

So, i'm tempted to discuss with doctor so that I can get them prescribed rather than paying retail.

I get on well with my GP, which in some ways makes it a bit more awkward, - but my questions really are:

1. If you have you discussed with your GP - What is the critical 'thing' that gets the repeat prescription.

2. Other than Viagra, have you tried any of the non-branded or other derivatives? (Tadalafil / Levitra etc). Would you recommend or avoid?

Thanks all!

J .

We get none branded for between a pound and 50p a tablet depending how many are purchased. They work fine but come in 100mg. If I take a full tablet it gives me headache but 50mg. Half a tablet... It works fine and still feel it in morning x

In order to get Viagra on prescription, your Dr can give you a private prescription, however as you have pointed out, you can now buy them 50mg, so the only advantage would be to get 100mg prescribed

As for the NHS prescription,in order to qualify, certain conditions will have to be met, conditions such as prostate cancer and certain diabetes will pass..

I do hope you dont qualify as it would suggest you are ill in some ways.

Your Dr will show you the various conditions that qualify

If you have never had a problem getting hard and just require them to improve your existing interesting sex life then you won’t get them on prescription as you don’t actually have ED.

For men that do experience ED it’s a very stressful situation and they are regularly monitored by the GP.

Generic and branded from licensed pharmacists must all adhere to the same rigorous minimum standards - so you are paying for a name, as well as the same stuff.

Everyone responds differently to the same medication, including with their side effects - so you need to discover from experience.

A pharmacist in store may be a good source of hrlp too.

No need to go to doctor for viagra. The unbranded stuff you can get online works just as well and is cheap. Get 50mg of sildenafil and it works a treat for me

If you don’t ‘need’ viagra, go buy it yourself from a pharmacy.

getting a repeat prescription on the nhs is just abuse of the system because you would just quite like it.. but don’t want to pay.

Occasional ‘not as hard as you would like’ is not a medical problem...

A totally fair point - Although i'm wary of buying through non official channels, i'm following up on some of the suggestions here - also giving Cialis a try as a few people recommended it.

If you want a prescription for it, ask your partner to ride you awkwardly and come down on your cock with their bodyweight, snapping a penile tendon. **ouch**!!!

The right angled erection and bruising this produces will help convince your doctor you have a medical need, and after the bruising subsides, hopefully you will be as lucky as I was for it to correct itself without complicated surgery. Gentle daily massages helped to straighten me out !!

I do find I now need "help" when "repeating".

Please don't do this... just buy some from boots !

Mr.

How about you just pay for them instead of milking money from an NHS that is already struggling and underfunded. You dont need a prescription

near the sounds of the wimborne quarter jack!

Since those that have to pay for prescribed meds would pay the same for each item dispensed, I would reckon getting Viagra from the GP is going to cost you £8.50? a go anyway!

I get my meds free now but get 4 tablets every repeat prescription which is supposed to be enough for 2 months! Good job I`m not that active!

My advice is go to your doctor, tell him/her you want him to give you a private prescription for (X)number of 100mg Sildenafil tablets.

Tell him you've been getting these off the internet, and they do help you but you've found you need to take a full 100mg tablet as half a tablet doesn't work for you. Otherwise he'll want to give you 50mg tablets.

Tell him your unsure whether what you're getting off the internet is genuine or not. This way you're sure it is and that you'd like a monthly repeat prescription.

Your Doctor can't charge you for issuing a private prescription for erectile function medication.

How many tablets you ask for a month is up to you.

As for where to take you prescription. The cheapest pharmacy I've found Asda, 20 tablets for £4.60

Have a few trial runs before you use them in anger. try splitting a tablet in half at first just to see how you get on. Taking a paracetamol will help fend off a headache, as will drinking water. It will work faster without food, around 30mins and your good to go.

Good luck.

100% agree. Total abuse of our NHS. Its abuse like this that makes it more difficult (see how I avoided the obvious pun there) for genuine ED sufferers to get the medication they actually require.

Yep, Google the actual cost to the NHS of a prescription, ED is a genuine medical issue, those with that problem are the only folk who should be getting this on a prescription

Hi Op

Now I am a pharmacist so the information I give is what I do for most of the men I see about this.

Firstly never ever buy any drugs from the internet. They are not regulated and you can be getting fake medication which in some have been known to contain rat poison. So stay clear of them.

Now about your question.

Over the counter viagra you would have had a consultation with a healthcare assistant or a pharmacist this is often certain questions we ask that we hope you answer legitimately as it’s your health which is at risk.

There are generic versions of branded medicines:- viagra = sildenafil citrate / cialis = Tadalafil / Levitra = Vardenafil / Spedra = avanafil.

All have different properties and side effects which is why a consultation with a doctor is very important to rule out any underlying health issues you may have (ie high blood pressure or heart murmur or other heart conditions). Another thing for a consultation is if you do take regular medication for a health issue these drugs can interact with them which could cause more problems.

Now about prescriptions then my view you should not get a nhs one as they should be really for ED problems never said there are people who abuse this.

One point I should bring to your attention is the cost of your Prescription in England (Scotland and wales don’t pay so this doesn’t apply) of the doctor issues you with say tadalafil on it you will be given the generic medication which would cost less than the prescription cost. So your paying over the odds.

Now most doctors will issue most prescriptions for generic brands nearly never for a branded one, as they work to budgets themselves especially if they are a government managed practice.

A private prescription would be the better choice for you as you pay the drug tariff and generic drugs are so cheap now.

It’s worth mentioning if you get chest pains or other major reactions painful erections, loss of vision shortness of breath or seizures see a doctor straight away.

Hope it helps also if you can’t get in to see a doctor then see a pharmacist who has the erectile dysfunctional consultation service as we can prescribe them from a private assessment.

Try Tadafil/Cialis it lasts for around 3 days and doesn't have the same side effects.
