Further to the STD thread how often do you get tested?

Do you have a rule or just go when you’re itchy?

Personally I go every 6 months or if something has happened in between (broken condom maybe)

I once txt all my ‘fuck buds’ to tell them I was going and would inform them either way (I think if you can lay with someone you should be able to talk to them!) the reactions were a mixture of ‘thanks mate, will go myself too’ and a (rather immature in my opinion) why are you even going? What are your symptoms? (None btw)

After being cheated on by my husband and catching a dose I also now don’t relent when In a relationship. I still go!

Every 3 months when playing, still always use a condom. Get checked for everything and get mouth swabbed too. Every 3-6 when just playing with my fwb, even when he isn't playing with others, he also never goes bare with anyone else and still rarely with eachother. Is just a good habit to get into I think. Most non fabbers I know would probably not even go if they had symptoms of anything

Get a full check every 2-3 months - last few have been postal and have actually found it an easy and effective way to get checked - although if I suspected something would go to the clinic.

I view my sexual health as my responsibility and would never rely on others for it.

At a minimum every 6 months, depends on if I've played with anyone other than my partners... If I have I do 3 X 12 weeks before going back to every 6 months.

I always tell my partners I've gone for testing, then tell them the results (never had anything except all clear)

Anyone who is a regular at Northwich sauna will know they have a sexual health guy there so it's easy to get checked every few weeks. I've never had any std and always play safe but it's great to be reassured just in case.

I get tested via postal kits every 3 months on average. If I'm at a club where they have the sexual health clinic, I take advantage of that offer, too. All my checks has been clear so far.

We both get tested every 3 months, regardless of whether we've had sex (penetrative or oral) with anyone else. We've never had a problem thankfully, but it's good to have that peace of mind.

Every time i get my pill so about every 4 months (I don't do the 7 day break for medical reasons). Sometimes I'll go sooner if I've been with someone new or I'm just feeling paranoid. I always use condoms with anyone other than my long term partner but there's always risks of accidental contact with fluids unless you're having incredibly clinical sex. At the moment all my sexual partners are regular but I still always do it every time I get my pill as I might as well while I'm there and you can never be too careful.

I go every three months for testing and get the full test done too. They might as well do my bloods while I'm there.

The staff know I'm a swinger at my local sexual health clinic and seem a little intrigued by it all. They are also very attractive .. Ha x

I have it done about every 3 months. In my county we have a ‘Free test me’ service which is postal. So it’s very convenient and easy....... no excuses nowadays

That's the service we use - it's the same level of testing that they do in the clinic (bloods, swabs, urine), but so much easier to do it from home.

The risks with oral are much much smaller than with unprotected penetration, especially if the oral isn’t to completion.

You are still at risk of getting gonorrhoea or syphilis

So although I don’t bareback, I do always insist on my partners having the same safety protocol of condom always to minimise the risk. And I get tested regularly.

I won’t play with anyone who barebacks, but if done safely with a close knit dynamic of people I understand that it could work for others

Did you know that if you swallow straight away the risks of catching anything are much less than gargling and spitting.....that was actually a tip from the nurse at a gum clinic. Your stomach acids kill off any infection ha

True which is why you get tested.

I’ve thankfully never had a positive test for anything but nowadays most are treatable, however the stigma will remain.

Sex is always a risk because we can’t seem to keep our own bodies clean because our behaviours aren’t.

Also agree that Liverpool is great compared to some other areas I've lived. Abacus in town is always heaving but they do the fast track "test and go" service if just getting tested and that includes bloods. I've never waited more than an hour there.

I also keep the texts to show to anyone I'm playing with. Not concrete evidence but mine come through on the same thread as my appointment reminders at the GP so I'd have to be pretty dedicated to fake them!

Well no of course it doesn’t unequivocally mean a person is clear at that precise moment, but if you’ve got recent clear results and your playing safe it’s better than having no tests at all surely? It shows that person cares about their health.

Every three months at an absolute minimum, regardless of how 'active' I've been.

I also take PrEP daily (for those that are unsure, it's a HIV preventative), am vaccinated against Hep A, B and HPV. The free condoms and lube are a bonus too.

The nhs send you an all clear text so it’s pretty easy to prove when the last ones were done and that it was negative.

Not in all areas they don’t and a negative result doesn’t mean you don’t now have an STI. (Not STD).

It does but Topsy does make a good point - not aimed at you I'm sure, but other thread readers, I'm amazed at the ignorance about STIs and testing that some display on here - including believing a clean test means someone is clean at that moment.

Every three months, but good you let them know either way.

Sadly some pepole don't i knew one guy found out he had didnt bother telling any one he played with just made sure he didn't play with them again.

Didn't help he had a big mouth so got around they found out.

If you where to give some hiv and not tell them you can be prosicuted, question is it the same for other STD's or should it be.

Every month or so and at a minimum of every 3 months. I've not been particularly active sexually recently, so I adjust things according to what I've been up to.

It's worth adding appointments in advance, if you don't want the walk-in clinics and it also helps you to remember your fall-back minimum testing regime.

Tbh if we’re in this environment and like to play with multiple partners it’s a risk we take , no matter how careful

Condoms , of course but if someone touches you when they’ve been touching someone else , say in a club environment then you run the risk

Life is risky !

And even though you are tested for STD’s I was told that some some will not show up even if you had it , for example Herpes ..you can be a Carrier for years before an outbreak and unless a person has symptoms then a standard clinic test won’t pick that up .

And apparently it’s very common and affects quite a high percentage of the population !

Also some other less common STD’s don’t get tested for as standard

Six monthly and would go for additional if anything happened like a condom break.

Every 3 months unless we’ve not played then every 6! Just the sensible thing to do. And like others have said I always say I swing and want the whole thing. Although home testing kits now have it all, so we did that last time
