We think we’re being too honest about our age. We get very little interest as we’re over 50 but have exchange pics with people who are supposedly 5-10 years younger than us but their pics look older than us!

We also met a couple who stated they were 47. We met them 4 years ago and thought they were over 50. Guess what? 4 years later they’re still 47.

Are we missing out because it’s the hidden truth that more people knock 5 years of their age than don’t.

our ages are real and up to date. We have caught people out lying before lol. We have told couples they are too old and 6 months later they message again and they are younger than us. When we ask they say no honest thats our age, but the old messages all came up where we turned them down for being way too old lol xx

I'm honest about my age, people can take it or leave it. I've met people who have lied about age, marital status etc over a drink or coffee, found them out to be liars and never met again. Same as people who get a bit gropey on a social. They just end up blocked.

These posts do attract people who say their honest about their age which we respect but our gut feel is in 40s or 50s a lot of people drop their age. Although they’re not going to admit it on a public forum .

It could be also that all that sex ages you

There and to the left a bit

People lie about all sorts of things because they think it increases their chance of a meet - personally I don't see the point, as these things have a funny way of coming out - age hasn't been an inhibitor to me at all, yes it might mean there are some that rule me out because of it, but that's no different to people ruling me out because of any other preference they may have.

A massive amount of people put a different age to their actual age on dating sites and definitely on this site. I've met countless people who's age is wrong on here.

One reason they do it is not because they want to appear younger, but because it gets round the prohibitive age restrictions people put on their profiles regarding who can contact them.

We’ve seen posts before we’re someone said ‘I set my age limit at 50 because I know that filters out the 55 year olds’ . So if people expect people with a Fab age of 50 to be really 5 years older then should we just join the hoardes and become 49.

Sounds like on Fab people expect others to be a few years older than their Fab age because that’s their experience.

I find it funny when you meet people and chat about your childhood and find that, despite them allegedly being 10 years younger, you watched exactly the same TV shows growing up back when there were only 3 channels and one of them showed the open university instead of kids' shows.

Even funnier when they watch kids shows that stopped being shown defore you time.

My age filter is 20-55 because I try not to judge people on their age as it depends entirely on who they are as a person. I also filter in the hope that people wouldn’t lie but I know they do. People lie about a lot of things which is a massive shame.

Society teaches us that women and men (and all other genders) look a certain way or act a certain way at certain ages which for some is going to be the case, but for the most part I’ve had some amazing times with people in their 50’s who were a lot more fun than a fusty 20 something who was dull as dishwater.

I’ve never lied about my age, and even at the still young age of 38 I’m definitely not going to start either! I’ll still be swinging into my 70’s hopefully!

Just turned 46, and suddenly I am invisible. A lot of people I'd like to message set a filter of 45. So I can see the temptation to adjust the details slightly.

But its the thin end of the wedge, where you create profiles to match what people are looking for, rather than an accurate one.

Hiding in the shadows

I'm honest about my age.

Can't see the point in lying about it.

I know some people alter dates a little, to avoid actual birthday as a security thing.

There's one guy local to me, I was 'warned' about him when I joined, by a friend who's been in here 6yrs that he'd been on the site for as long as they could remember, makes new profiles regularly.

In the 2yrs I've been on, he's had 3 that I know of/have spotted, is now 8yrs younger than when he first messaged me, & still posting the same pics.

No idea how old those pics actually are or if he even has his own hair & teeth these days

There's several cases where people have been prosecuted (in other countries) for lying about their job in order to get sex. It might just be a morality issue in this country but that doesn't make it right. I think it's absolutely disgusting to lie about anything with the sole intention of using it to get sex with someone who otherwise wouldn't consent to it.
