If you feel like you're being led on, I'm guessing there is a pattern to your messages that encourage that behaviour? What kind of messages are you sending?

Vanilla sites have alot better ratio of men to women than here. Vanilla women want sex just as much, they just aren't as obvious. You need to see Fab as a site to meet couples predominately, or maybe a hotwife (if you are lucky).

Alternatively, dress as a woman (tv)- they seem to do very well

I'd not agree entirely with that. I use both types of site.

Only I treat people the same on both.

Have low expectations and put those who show an interest, through a series of probing questions before I'd even think of bringing sex into the conversation.

As far as kinks and stuff go, just explore at your own pace.
