Their preference is older than my age

So, it's very rare for me (Mercy here, hi) to start off a conversation by sending a message first, yet I find that when I do it's always to people who's age preference is older than my age.

Do i carry on messaging anyways and not respecting their preference, or do I just not bother?

Thank you :D

It’s the opposite for me. Many like 25-45.

I turned 46 last summer

I think it only works that way if they block a certain gender. Not sure if you can block an age

You can block an age. I have filters set. Someone viewed my profile last week, a lower age then I’ve set, and put a comment with my name in his status for me to message him.

I’d seen people doing that before and wondered why they did- but I get it now.

You've set age preferences in your profile. Would you appreciate someone ignoring that and messaging you anyway?

Good point.

Wouldnt bother me personally as it happens constantly. The way id think about it would be 'ok I dont want somebody too young, but if somebody from that category tickles my fancy then that's great'

I have filters too so I respect people’s choices.

Before I used the filter I was inundated with cock picks and fancy a fuck messages from men.

Granted my sex life would be more active if I swung that way but, I don’t.

Mind you my inbox is so much quieter since I blocked men

Lol! So if i until a box for genders then that automatically blocks a gender? And if i say I'm interested in a certain age group, anyone out of that age group is automatically blocked?

The whole thing confused me, because I have people messaging me wanting to arrange meets yet I'm like 5 or 10 years younger than their preference ??

Is this just a guideline to a lot of people, is it not really taken that seriously ?

We don't mind messages from people outside our age range, either end of the scale. We set ours as a rough idea. I know it's a phrase used all too often but age really is just a number. For us age is mental rather than physical, if you don't ask you don't get, nothing to lose.

Thanks, that's exactly how I believe it should be! Like take me and Stevo for example, we would never expect a 31 year age gap in a relationship. Age is definitely mental rather than physical!!!

I wouldn't find it rude at all but some might. Although i set an age limit on my profile, i'd base any decision to meet on the person i'm talking to rather than their age.

Some people have narrow age ranges and use mail filters to keep the mail down. But they may go looking and actually be happy meeting people outside that range.

If they mail you then surely they are interested on some level.

Also filters are there for a reason.

If they don’t want to contacted outside of their preference they can block it.

If they haven’t filtered go for it.

Means they might reply.

"Your ages are quite far apart being 20 & 51 so think you will be able to message practically anyone on here as I think it takes both into account. Just go for it"

Correct.

Only one person on a couples account needs to match the stated age preferences to be able to message when you have filters set.

With the OP they would be able to message me because the man is within my age range, even though the lady is well under my minimum age. I would choose not to reply because my age range applies to both people in a couple.

Not at all. There's some hot 19 year olds, and there's definitely some hot 56 year olds. I'd definitely block an age range if i was adamant about it.

Can't msg you Mercy 'cos of those dreaded filters. But just to say all of my long term lady friends have been at least 10 years older than me, and range up to 20yrs younger. My youngest FAB short term partner was 37, just half my age, and others have been in their 40's so, I totally agree, age is just a number. Pleased to see you quite successfully have managed a 31 year gap.

So because you're 74 and my age limit is 55 you are then blocked from messaging me? Right I see!

"That a drastic!! I didn't know you could block ages ! "

For further information which might help, think of it this way... folk that set their age preferences will exclude messages from folk outwith that range messaging, winking or probably, more importantly, cluttering their Home Feed Updates too. So at 56 I wouldn’t show up in your Feed if I was local to you as it’s not what you’re looking for.

Don’t think of it as something against your ages, but more down to personal choice. Your own instincts will serve you with regards to whether you should try to make contact with folk outwith your preferred age group & vice versa. Think twice if you feel it could end up with a negative reply. Or block & move on if you/someone doesn’t fit the desired criteria so that you can focus on those you will be compatible with. Good luck.

Well up to now I've always had a message back instead of a shun. It's not a case of arrogance to me. Like I stated earlier above, people message me all the time with their preferences which are older than my age.

This is an obvious case of personal preference rather than a block opinion.

Unless I'm completely blocked from messaging someone, i will take their age preference as their guideline.

I think if someone is just slightly out of the age preference it’s not a problem to most they’re more guidelines then anything to us. Obviously if the age is 10 years out of preference probably give it a miss.

I don't think it's arrogant to message if you are just outside someone's age range. It should be more about what you actually look like than a number. We have spoken to people who seems the right age for what we are after at the time...then they message and look a lot older.

"You've set age preferences in your profile. Would you appreciate someone ignoring that and messaging you anyway? "

They can’t though because of the filters. It’s a personal preference which would apply off the site as well.

I’m not going to tell someone to feck off for trying to get my attention but I know I wouldn’t meet them. Sounds harsh, and not meant to be....

For us we are less likely to consider someone much younger than our stated age preference than someone older. If however we met at a club and we all got on well and there was a mutual attraction age wouldn't nessesarily come into it. We are however naturally attracted to people who are ether a similar age or older.

I’m too honest.

Though I’d definitely lie about my smoking for a night with you
