For getting your first physical meet it's not far off the mark. I missed out steps 3 and 5 on my own approach mind. I'd argue that No. 2 isn't really debateable though!

I think that's a valid approach and it should work for you. Your profile is super hot, I can't fault it in any way.

Looking at this scenario from the other side though, I have only met people from fab who I approached myself, and not the other way around. So if you wanted to meet me, you'd participate in local events and make yourself known that way, in person. Fab then is the way to keep in touch. Clearly, other people may have other strategies/patterns.
