We feel all the clubs should do it, some may say this is extreme but it should be made law. If the entry fee goes up in the club fine but at least you’ll be playing with guaranteed cleared people.

I play safe and in addition am regularly tested.

I don’t do it by post as they are not full tests. If I’m getting tested, it’s the full gambit including blood.

So I have mixed feelings about clubs offering testing. It’s good to open it up and give more people a hassle free way to test. On the other hand, it may give a false sense of security without the extra aspect of blood for HIV and Hep.

It would be great if testing advanced enough to allow testing of small amounts of blood. Then the self test kits could include one of those thumb prick things.

Yes as our postal ones is finger prick test for HIV with swabs. But the clinics they run in clubs offer full bloods hepb etc & test for more. Also advice. We play as safe as possible always with condoms but testing is a must for us. Also by going to club for testing less embarrassing as they know your lifestyle etc no askward explaining

I find the downer with postal testing is they don't test for rectal or oral sti's.

We want the full works when we're tested so go to our local hospital which has a GUM unit.

Local GUM clinic, we have always been fully open with them about our choice of lifestyle and have never felt judged.

They have said in the past that they wished more people who were swingers were as open and honest as we are to enable them to do the appropriate tests.

Also, for what it’s worth they have commented on more than one occasion about the low instances that swingers enter the clinic who require any treatment which they think is down to the sexual awareness and attitudes held within the swinging fraternity.

People aren't guaranteed 'clean' if they've been tested... Unless clubs are holding you hostage between testing and results and making sure you have no sexual contact in the meantime....

Are they going to get results back and say "sorry, got the clap, not playing today"

Unlikely....

Getting checked at clubs is just more convenient than trying to get to the clinic, which is always heaving, only open every second Wednesday for 17 minutes... The postal method, I've used previously, doesn't cover a blood test so isn't as good as a full check from a clinic

No guarantees though. If you were unfortunate enough to get something, it can take a few weeks to show up on a test. There is no instant result either, usually takes 10-14 days to come through.

I have used postal tests that can include HIV blood tests - I used the one that is recommended by Terence Higgins Trust(not sure if i have the name right). The only slight caution with relying on results from postal kits is that for a determined person they could send back someone else's samples to give a false test result.

There and to the left a bit

Vanilla Alternative Bi Night usually has Terrence Higgins Trust in attendance offering testing - it's quick, easy and covers the full range of testing.

Testing by post, at least for Hertfordshire also offers the full range of tests available - haven't used it yet, but the clinic have assured me that it offers everything that they can in person and helps cut down on waiting times at the clinic

THT have changed their HIV testing process - you now have to wait for the result same as with all other tests. At least that was the case the last time I got tested at VA in June.

The immediate result method they used before actually only told you if you were clear three months ago - the current testing is an "at that moment" result

Yes absolutely.

From some of the responses here, my health authority sounds like it’s still in the dark ages. I called them today as it’s been more than my preferred three months since a test. They won’t even take new bookings and I have to try them at the end of the week for two-three weeks time. Then it’s ten days to wait for results. Though I usually call the results line after a week and they’re in.

I took the opportunity to ask about kits including bloods and they had never heard of such a thing. I suggested that it might cut down on the appointment wait times if they did. I don’t think it went down very well

I don't bother with my Local Authority - they only have a limited service although the neighbouring one has a postal free service open in their post codes. I have to pay privately and usually order from Amazon.

That is reassuring, I just went to our Gum clinic yesterday and got an appointment straight away. Results two weeks by text. Sanity check more than anything. You have to leave two weeks from your last 'risky' encounter if you ride bareback for those of you who do.

My sexual health clinic do appointments and walk ins. They also test for a full range, so vaginal, rectal & oral swabs, blood test & provide free condoms. The postal kit is simply for urine sample & not even a swab kit.

They also recommend that Swingers should be tested 3 monthly, and can discuss options with you, such as a hep b vaccine for anyone who plays with bi males. Postal kits can’t give advice either.

There is no substitute for seeing a sexual health professional, and trust me, they’ve seen it all - sex workers, drug addicts, victims of sexual abuse ... a couple of Swingers aren’t going to make them raise an eyebrow!!

From the conversation I had at my most recent test, the biggest occurance of infection in swingers is oral STI’s ... because many people use condoms to have sex, but not many use a condom or a dam to give oral sex!!

Whether it’s at a mobile screening can at a club, or your local clinic - quarterly testing is the best way to know you’re staying safe!

Some ladies / couples won’t play with bi-males. Straight guys don’t either (actual straight, not fab straight!!)

There is a higher risk of hep b in bi & gay males, but you can get a vaccine. I wouldn’t have thought about it if it hadn’t been suggested & it’s free (it’s £50 to get it for travel purposes!) so it makes sense!

My local STI clinic points out it costs £140 per STI test.

Appreciate the importance in the lifestyle but given the strains on tbe NHS should there be some sort of charge for regular testing? Are there any other tests that you can basically request as opposed to being sent by a GP?

You don’t have to be referred by a GP, you can go directly to a GUM clinic.

And it may be £140 for an STI test (I have no idea) but I’d imagine treating more people for STI’s because they’re not careful about testing would cost even more!!

You can buy them online (Amazon sell them, I’d imagine other outlets do too) or you can check out your local health authority’s sexual health services.

From the different posts on here, the local authorities postal kits are very varied in quality & it depends where you live as to how thorough a test kit you’ll get!!

mine haven't offered throat swab for ages. I now use the clinic they run aimed at working girls as that one does the full works.

The general clinic doesn't do oral or rectal. Just bloods and vaginal swabs. No inspection either. Hence the working girls clinic is better

None of he clubs themselves do the testing, they are just the venues.

There are many outreach programmes all over the country, often to reach the LGBT community, that are charities or have NHS funding.

Club 29 in Leicester is another one that holds outreach clinics.

"No guarantees though. If you were unfortunate enough to get something, it can take a few weeks to show up on a test. There is no instant result either, usually takes 10-14 days to come through."

Yep, this is mostly correct, depending on what infection you're talking about (one of the nastier possibilities can take at least 3 months to give a positive result).

Apart from the obvious (like using condoms for eveything all the time) one thing that can help reduce the spread of STIs is for ALL of us to test regularly and get treatment when necessary. It doesn't totally remove the possibility of infection, but drastically reduces it.

Maybe clubs could help by doubling membership fees but offering a 50% discount for those that have had a test on-site within the past 3 months. Encouraging everyone to test every quarter would have a real impact on the spread of STIs.

"I play safe and in addition am regularly tested.

Our tests by post include a thing to prick your finger and a pot for the blood.

Ours too "

your lucky Derbyshire doesn't offer it yet except to under 25s and then it's just the swan. Saying that I've noticed all my local clinics are under 25s only now too. You have to go to the big hospitals if your over that. Yet locally I have 6 working 3 miles but to old to attend them so have to travel to derby or kingsmill.

Our doctors just refer you now although they always add hiv to my monthly blood tests for other things too.

We do ours every 12wks"

I treat mine like an MOT, just get tested once a year.
