I'm fairly new to all of this and I see on profiles a lot "Just a "hey" will be ignored" so what can I say to new people on here.

Thing is, it’s a bit of a filter. If someone doesn’t know what to say now, you’re unlikely to be able to chat and get on later.

What would you like to receive in a message? Read the person’s profile to see what they like and how you fit that

Same as anywhere else. Introduce yourself, show that you'be read the profile and understand what the other person/s is/are looking for, have a conversation. There is no "this" and the normal mannera and etiquette still apply: surely you have written to people before? Or met them for the first time?

Short snappy and a compliment usually works....think outside the box and not the same as the other 101 people that have messaged her

I wouldn’t bother until you sort your profile out. She will just delete your message or block you. You Need to be more than a silhouette to stand out. X

A lot of the time your profile will be looked at before your message, so it won't matter how good your message is if you aren't "selling" yourself on your profile.

Some people won't even bother looking at your message or profile if you are just a silhouette.

Use the tools the site gives you to help yourself stand out and a simple message, tailored to the profile you're contacting, may be all you need

I’ll turn this round. What should someone say as a reply to a message saying something like ‘hey’ or ‘hi’? Just as you don’t know what to say to get the ball rolling, you’ll probably find that the people in receipt of that message also won’t know what to say, hense the delete.

We will often reply to just a "hi".

We look at the profile of every message sender to see if we want to respond. If it's a good profile we will message back, if any further messages are just one word or not very forthcoming we say we're not suited.

We are probably quite unusual in this respect though so you probably need to introduce yourself, say you admire their profile and ask them to get back to you if they're interested.

Good luck.

It's not always the message that's the problem,if it's a good profile people are more likely to reply

Read the profile you are messaging and refer to something in it op,show some humour too .

Most will check a profile before reading messages.

I have a simple way of getting rid of messages. Messages without a profile picture and either a location that is no where near or trying to be clever with a location like 'near you' all get deleted without even looking at them.

Next go all the messages that have nothing more than 'hey how are you' or can't string together a sentence in legible english.

Then I can look at the rest and if not interested they get a single line reply saying no thanks. If they seem like someone interesting then I may ask a couple of questions.

It can't be hard do say something that shows you have at least read the profile and are interested in what you see, not just sending messages to everyone until you get a hit.

Your profile is the most important, if you don't say anything about yourself then why should I give a damn what you want.

If you got nothing to SAY you got nothing to SHOW.

Manchester (she/her)

I don't always look at profiles. A message can do it for me.

A good message for me is something like saying why they find me interesting and/ or what they think we share an interest in (not in too much detail, I'd rather not get to wank chat immediately). Bonus points if it's not immediately sexual (e.g. I mention I like intelligence).

I delete any message that I can read in the message preview. It just screams "I see you're a female with a pulse, I'm looking for a female with a pulse".
