Unfortunate, but lesson learnt...don't fork out in advance. There are genuine couples here, you know that.

Don't let this put you off, and better luck next time.

Sorry OP. You have been on the site for 5 weeks and you are already whingeing that you hope you find genuine people soon. There are loads of genuine people on this site. You have been let down tonight. Maybe you should have arranged to meet these people in a bar or such like before you booked a hotel room.

Nothing worse than a cancelled Meet..

.

We arranged to meet a couple last winter and everything was going to plan.. except on the day of the meet - we couldnt drive out of our street because of that heavy snow we had...

.

They were travelling from a different part of scotland to meet us in the "Middle" and we had arranged hotels etc..

.

during the day we kept in touch and we were both having nightmare weather conditions ( im sure some folks will remember last year and winter ) !!!

.

They eventually made it to the hotel and we struggled with spades and snow shovels and had five fantastic hours digging snow and trying to move a car about on ice - whilst soaked to the the skin kinda afternoon..

.

They blamed us for "wasting their time" and blocked us.. !!

.

The news were telling us how hundreds of people had abandoned cars on the m8/m9 etc - the airports were closed and it was chaos outside - and the usual warnings - dont travel unless its an emergency.. well even the emergency crews were getting stuck !!!

.

The next Day - they were on the fone telling us it was our fault they were trapped in the hotel and couldnt get home...

.

All because we didnt get to our Meet..

.

BETTER LUCK NEXT TIME xxx

Why is it harsh? Why book a hotel room in hope that people you have never met before are going to turn up? At least meet people on neutral ground before spending hard earned cash. It makes sense.

i have been on here before and to be honest this is my 1st big let down. it just would be nicer if they kept in touch and then didn't block me. why block me it was perfectly amiable, i didn't get pissed off but no contact, a block and £65 down ? how would you feel. its like when you say you'll meet someone and then they skirt around their address or where to meet.

Of course it makes sense, but hindsight is a wonderful thing, and I am sure the OP realises this now. However, he was asked to arrange a hotel, did so, then was let down at such short notice he could neither cancel the room in time nor arrange fun with people who would turn up. Saying 'neener its your own fault' is a bit mean IMO. Obviously you think the couple behaved reasonably and the OP is totally at fault.

thats true, but they seemed genuine people. it was the fact they said they had a family crisis at 7, they couldn't reply to my concerned texts but had time to block me on here. why agree to a hotel room if you don't intend to turn up. i'm just disappointed really, that people get off on this sort of behaviour

No. I don't think the couple behaved reasonably at all. I am just stating that it is very silly to book a hotel for a first time meet. I do have a certain amount of sympathy for the OP.Just saying that I would never spend money on a hotel on somebody we had never met before.

This is one of the reasons we now insist on a social meet first, and NEVER arrange to play on first date. It's a good way to out time wasters. Treat it for what it is OP ...a learning curve..I hope you find some fun soon hun and wish you lot's of luck ! . x

I do sympathise with you, before I had my own place to play, I had arranged a meet with a guy who was paying for a hotel, he wanted me to book it and he would pay me back when he came to the meet, something told me not to and I told him a white lie that I had booked it, to see what would happen and was right I never heard from him again and found myself blocked, I hope you have reported the couple

That's a shafting - you have every right to be angry. But next time organise a no-strings drink to see if they are genuine. I had a cpl run me around yesterday and eventually block me (they made the first approach too), and as angry as I am, I'm glad I didn't travel miles to be screwed for the wrong reason.

chat on site, chat on phone, meet for social, book hotel and insist on a confirmation the morning of the meet (unless a friend you have known for a while) which gives you a chance to cancel booking. Lesson learned. Better luck next time.

I think it's absolutely rotten of people to cancel at the 11th hour, knowing that someone has parted with their hard-earned to make arrangements for everyone to enjoy.

It would perhaps be okay to cancel 12 or 24 hours in advance. I think that's a reasonable scale to get replacements.

I'm just wondering how many there are out there that are obsessed with the idea rather than the practice of meeting people.

Disappointing.

it just goes to show that anyone can be a time waster, we had one the other week, but had arranged to meet at a music venue, so when he didnt turn up we still had a fun night. we were expecting him to not show to be honest, just had a vibe.

so a hard leason to the op, i feel for you, but a bit naive of you.

sometimes there are real reasons to cancel im sure, illness, family problem etc. so even a last min cancel could still happen, but share the costs, or atleast offer to why should one side pay anyway?

i dont think cancelling is the main problem here as we all know life does through curve balls at us when we least expect it and they did contact to say they had to cancel not just dont show.

but if they had been genuine then i dont see why they would block.

Dont know if they had verifications of previous meets or not

but do symphasise with OP have seen single males get lot of bad press as being timewasters so nice to show there are many who also genuine too

I've only used hotels a couple of times and that was with people I'd already met but what I did with one meet where they'd already forewarned me that a family issue might throw a spanner in the works was to ring the hotel and see how full they were then booked the room once we'd all arrived. Most hotels don't have full occupancy and the places such as the well known budget chains (don't think I can name them but you know who I mean!) are used to people turning up on spec. Ms

"Replacement fun! WTF ?"

to replace someone who is unable to turn up with someone else. who may/will.

He had a hotel room and why not....

He hardly sold his soul to the first lot...... and thankfully as they didn't turn up.

i have had a few couples who promised to turn up and didn't!,its not just the single guys on here who can fuck peoples evenings up although they do get most of the stick!.

a simple phone call is all that is needed and most have that facility these days so it really pisses me off!.

i have been quite lucky though in getting some very good meets indeed so perhaps i should not complain too loud but just wanted to vent off!.

Good on you!

In future, if I were you, I'd make 100% there are two people attached to the 'couples' profile by speaking to both of them on the phone or seeing them on cam if a social meet first isn't possible.

Once you are satisfied the 'couple' exist and you are all up for having fun.... then book your hotel room.

I've got to say I would have been a bit weary over the fact that they contacted you first. I'm not saying couples (genuine ones) don't ever contact single males first... but it's not the regular trend... it really does sound like you got well and truely stitched up.

I hope you have a lot of fun on here in the future x

The best advice would be to make sure the next " couple" you arrange a meet with are actually a couple, phone, cam or both would tell you there are at least two of them.

I would advise more checks before arranging and meet at a pub before booking any room.

I would do as others have said and report them.

PS you can still report people who are blocked, on the left hand side of their profile it will still have a report button.
