Hi all!

Well I (him) went for a check up at the local GUM clinic, they asked when I last had sex with someone other than 'her', I said 3 weeks. Not judgemental at all, until... I told them I wasn't having an affair, but was in fact a swinger, there attitude took a turn for the worse... Seriously WTF!

Oh well, the second nurse I saw thought it was great! lol

They did say they had had a group of Norfolk swingers in with "the clap" a month or so ago....

How often do others go? How is the attitude of your GUM clinic? Do you tell them?

I can't praise them enough they do a grand job and now on first name terms with most the nurses.

Yup the nurses at mine are great - there is one wee geordie nurse who I love to bits - am always in there hours when she's on.

I know hows her sons gettin on at school, how she married and divorced a doctor etc etc

I don't worry one bit now, the simple base level human side of her just puts me so at ese

how did their attitude change? if it was that bad i would make a complaint - they are not their to judge you in fact they should be praising you for being responsible for going to get checked.

i tell my GUM clinic i am a swinger and i get lots of free condoms

My GUM clinic have lovely staff. They all know me, now whether that's because they know I am a transvestite or not I have no idea, but generally we all end up having a laugh and they ALWAYS want to know about where I go and what I get up to, ha ha ha, xxx

Mine are lovely too. I've found smear tests very painful in the past but they are so gentle (its the same method for testing)

I tell them I'm a swinger, I think they appreciate my honesty.

Plus like eves said u get loads of condoms.

I am honest with mine and used to go every 12 weeks when fully 'active' because I am responable for my sexual health.

Admitted if I am not active or just with 1 trusted person I dont go so often, but I check they go and check they are open honest and playing safe.

It's all mute for me right now as I have so many screenings with the pregnancy and know my staus wont have changed but seriously if anyone looked at me funny for being honest about swinging I would not be happy.

Shake it off as their problem, they clearly arnt getting any

The staff at my clinic are lovely and thanked me for my honesty (plus gave me loads of condoms). I hope that the OP's incident was just due to a bad day. The staff for these clinics are specially picked for their sensitivity. If you have a second bad experience there I would write to the hospital and let them know. Our health and well being should be of the up most importance to the staff.

He's since moved though

I told the doctor at the gum clinic that i was on a swingers website. She said she thought that was just for couples. She seemed quite interested.

We're totally up-front, make no secret of the fact we're regular long-term swingers and have never had any judgmental comments. They've enquired whether we had regular friends and asked us to advise them to have regular check-ups too.

We both always get packs of condoms and lube. They seem pretty unshockable; G was asked by one young female health advisor whether he had anal sex with other women and on saying yes was given a stack of stronger condoms, and R was advised to always carry condoms with her when clubbing and not rely on men having them. They seem very familiar with the swinging scene!

I go to the Boots clinic in Birmingham city centre. Staff there are friendly, supportive and never judgemental.

I was a bit coy when I first stated going and made up stories about new boyfriends but when a friend told me they just say they are a swinger, I decided to to the same. They don't bat an eyelid but do ask more pertinent questions and offer further safety advice such as having a Hep B jab. Also don't be embarassed about anal or oral sex as it's nothing new to them, just helps them help you better.

I always come out with a big bag of latex free condoms and have been given femidoms, dams and lubes to try. They can't do enough to promote safety.

Maybe you just had an unfortunate visit and next time the staff will be more understanding. Don't let it put you off and don't feel you have to justify your lifestyle. You are being far more responsible than many people who go to the pub on a friday night and end up having a d*unken shag!

I would report the person. Sex is the reason you were born because some decide they want to enjoy lots is not a matter of judgement its a matter of fact. I have piles ........any advice?

The woman we see is great. We have a chat and a laugh as well as all the serous stuff. But we did have a different one last time. Very shy and almost scared to ask questions ( hope she gets better). Was so funny when she shyfully asked if we were faithfull to each other as some people lead alternative lifestyles. Had she read her notes it says we are swingers on them. ( our choice to have that recorded all you shy or behind the other halfs back people out there.)

Be tested, its not painful and it shows you care for yourself and those you play with.

Deepening on how active I am I attend every 3 to 6 months. You can't rely on playing safe as some bugs are transferred orally and condoms can split or slip off.

i used to lie from embarrassment, but then they assumed failed contraception and tended to want to do pregnancy tests and offer the morning after pill. It just got too complicated, tho i am an awful liar..i blush

There really is no point in lying, after all they are there to help you not judge you.

The more they know, the more they can help and advise, none of us are experts and they have heard it all before

Do these clinics test for more than your local GP would? I have been having regular swobs this year for something else but the last twice have asked for other tests to be done whilst they're at it.

But should I be going to a specialist place instead?

The clininc will offer to swab every hole you use for sex and take blood tests. If your Dr don't so this then yes, the clinic does more.

Plus, the clinic will have more products for you to try

I use a Fabulous local gay bi and trans clinic..

They are the best, I found them after I told my doctor I was basically gay and they were really homophobic.

The clinic makes me feel comfortable and they are like friends now, besides the male nurse is sooooo cute

With regards to tests, we tell them our lifestyle and they test for everything no questions asked

We go every three months, they don't want to book you three months in advance beaue if you don't turn up they get penalised as a missing or something like that

But we insist, and they see us every time so we just get a on going three month booking, full check up

if something, god forbid, is found they text you within two weeks

Normal tests include, I think, HIV, Hep B and C, Chlaymidia, Gon and Syph etc

I went to cardiff gum clinic for the first time in years recently.

waited three hours to be seen as they have a take a number system and I didn't get any freebies at all

went few weeks ago to carlisle one, no problems just the hate waiting for the text to say all clear lol

plus at carlisle need better signs up as a few OAP came in then got told no you need the next room .

first OAP that came in most have been 90 i was just thiking good on him still been at it till nurse sent him next door

LGI GUM staff are fantastic, i was really nervous first time i went,

but they put me at ease, i now go every 3 months to get tested, no issues at all

It seems it comes down to the staff at the time. If you are not happy ask to see somebody else next time. My very first visit was in 96 and the bloke was a dick and rude. Never any problems with staff since, except the shy one last time (see above). We have swingers on our notes but that is by our choice, it just means we get more freebies, can be seen together and were elligible for free hep B jabs. The one we see does discuss local issues but without identifing anyone. So if anything is going round we can be extra vigual.

i sometimes go to the family planning clinic and sometimes the gum. the gum does some of its tests while you wait and also routinely tests for more than the fp, but the fp works on a walk in basis so it can be easier to get in. and since i'm on the system of the fp clinic i can just walk in for supplies whenever i'm near - i get 36 condoms at least every time i ask. the gum give them out too but not as many - though i haven't told them that i'm a swinger just that i'm very active with a variety of partners...

Go for a full screen every six months, if your playing week in week out, we would recommend one every four months.

Plenty of nurses are swingers so they shouldn't judge!

Personally its none of their business, just say you have an active sex life and ask for a full screen, very easy.
