meet now a facebook friend suggestion

I rarely swop mobile numbers as i like to keep fab life seperate from my real life, over xmas i swopped numbers with someone, stored it in my phone and called them to arrange what was a wonderful meet. To my horror facebook has now suggested this person as a potential friend, how do they do this? how can i stop it? i want to meet but not run the risk of people knowing everything about me. Anyone had similar issues and been exposed to family?

Hi Facebook knows everything now, it does do this. It will link you to anyone who you have given your phone number or email associated with Facebook too. It also does this if you link Baddoo dating app to Facebook, it linked me and my 26 years old son. Facebook also knows what you buy if you use the same email for online shopping. I bought some knives, almost instantly the same site and items appeared on my news feed.

The only way around it is to have seperate email for each and remove your phone number from Facebook.

Facebook=Big brother is watching you.

The digital age..everything is connected to everything and seems to be all knowing. Part of the reason I've reduced my digital footprint, got rid of facebook, no Amazon or e bay, no on line shopping at all in fact! no twitter or any social media bar fab, no online or digital banking, I don't play games on line or have a gamer tag..I have my fab account, and one more fet site membership is all and the other site account I never use so will close soon too leaving fab as pretty much my only on line account..oh and maybe whatsapp..must delete that too actually

You must have put your phone number on your facebook details. Remove that and it will help with privacy. I don't have my phone number on my facebook details so on the very rare occasions i have given a Fab person my mobile number it has never connected us.

Most simplistic measure is buy a cheap brick phone for £10 and a PAYG sim purely for Fab etc

I've had that too. I don't link my phone number to my facebook but it still knows. Thankfully never had a friend request from it.

Google maps on my phone also knows where I live even though I've never used it to get home.

Switch off your GPS info as your location data will suggest friends if you've spent time in the same area. Our local club warns of this

Options:

1.Remove ur number from Facebook. That'll stop any further additions. Also o go into Facebook privacy settings and select the options that allow Facebook access to other information. This includes the scary one where ur nude pics are selected by fb to be displayed too!

2. People need to select the option on here also that no information is retained by Google searches.

3. Change ur number. It's not hard now and very easy to migrate contacts over to it.

Facebook suggesting people has nothing to do with your gps locations etc.. you give fb access to your "contacts" as well as photos.. text messages and e mail etc etc etc.. thats where it pulls the data it needs to get connections. All accounts are linked.. you do a google search and suddenly you log into fb and low and behold..right there is an advertisement for what you looked for in google... its ALL connected..

To ensure privacy delete your number from social media accounts or restrict it to just yourself

download an app called Vyke and purchase a temporary mobile number - you can use that number for meets - allows calls and text messages

Alternatively buy a payg sim and put that in an old phone and use that

Unsync your laptop and phone and any apps I had to do this yesterday as phone history showed up on my chrome laptop and I didn't want my searches on phone cluttering up laptop history

If you log onto Facebook on your phone, it will suggest people who’s number it recognises, even if you’ve deleted that number & even if your number is not on your Facebook account. You also get recommended people who check in to the same places you have or like/ follow similar pages

No one else can see your recommended friends list & no one will know why a particular person is on it.

You can also delete a person from your recommended list so it’s not too much of a panic.

Stick to Kik, no phone numbers!!

It uses GPS data to identify home, work, regularly visited locations. If you don’t want it to, turn off location services!

Bet you have WhatsApp installed... its owned by Facebook and you agreed they could know and share all your info.

As others have said pick up a SIM put it in an old or cheep phone, keep things apart.

I think it's linked to your phone number.

What I generally do now is as soon as I've exchanged numbers with someone I intend to meet is check if their Facebook is linked if It is i just block them for both my protection and theirs.

It may seem like a hinderence but it has actually stopped me meeting 2 guys who were actually lying to me about being married

I've removed my number from FB now, but I've also had friend suggestions pop up from people I've never given my number too.

Several of which I'm sure are from here!

I blocked them as soon as saw the notifications, save any embarrassment on both sides

Fb it intrusive in a bad way. My brother in law one day was talking about something then fb started bring that exact thing in his newsfeed as an advert...so you can assume the app listens because that’s in the terms you agree to

I don’t have the app or Messenger. I don’t allow it to track my location. I use kik or if someone really needs a number I have a second phone. If you get my real number then you’re a very good friend and very trusted. Otherwise absolutely not.

Oh and people I know on the scene...for those not a very good friend and very trusted I went through fb, found them, blocked them. Nothing personal but my private life is exactly that and I want it to stay that way. I choose who my friends are not fb.

2 guys I meet regularly come up on my people u may know.

One is attached and I didn't even click on his profile as a mark of respect and being discrete. He's been honest and open with me from the start and wdnt do anything to jeopardise his privacy.

Hopefully if u trusted ur meet enuf to give ur no then he will offer u the same respect x
