Good starting point, do you need a key holders certificate of training?

"A dungeon master?

A dungeon master/mistress (or DM) is usually the term given by fetish clubs/events to someone who is in charge of the safety of BDSM play.

Nothing more, nothing less.

No need to mock.

Didn’t mock, give me the criteria that gives the title, not a hard question.

You say title but it’s a role and should be seen as such. Also depends if you mean Dungeon Master/Mistress or Dungeon Monitor as they are a little different, although at smaller clubs/events they will combine the roles.

A Dungeon Monitor is responsible for safety. If they say a scene can’t happen or must stop then that’s what happens. That could be because it’s unsafe or includes something not allowed at the dungeon eg blood play or something becomes non consensual but the Dom/me continues. They will also allow a scene to continue even if it looks like it needs to stop if they’re aware in advance eg CNC

In terms of qualifications, as you ask, it’s up to the individual dungeon to specify their own criteria but I would expect a DM to have first aid training and a background of BDSM for many years. The ‘non’ qualifications also matter - well respected by others on the scene and trustworthy. They’re usually a good host to welcome people especially newbies and introduce them to the rules and sometimes other people. They are the people to speak to if you’re doing hardcore edge play or something outside the usual for that event so they need a good grasp of all kinks, possible scenes and safety implications.

A Dungeon Master/Mistress would be expected to have a good range of skills, many years experience in BDSM, knowledgable on safety in their particular area, and again well respected by others on the scene and trustworthy.

As I say it depends on the size of the dungeon as to how formal everything is. Heathrow Dungeon Zone where I was Dungeon Mistress/House Domme also had a Dungeon Master/House Dom and a Dungeon Monitor. It was the latter who was responsible for the overall dungeon and people safety and I know she is first aid trained.

That’s my experience of the role and requirements anyway. Others may have different experiences.
